Prokaryotic evolution shapes specialized communities in long term engineered pit mud ecosystem

open access: yesnpj Biofilms and Microbiomes
Elucidating the temporal dynamics of complex microbial consortia is crucial for engineering robust microbiome. We investigated prokaryotic evolution in pit mud, a centuries-old engineered environment used in Chinese liquor fermentation.

A Hybrid Path Loss Prediction Model based on Artificial Neural Networks using Empirical Models for LTE And LTE-A at 800 MHz and 2600 MHz

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications
This article presents the analysis of a hybrid, error correction-based, neural network model to predict the path loss for suburban areas at 800 MHz and 2600 MHz, obtained by combining empirical propagation models, ECC-33, Ericsson 9999, Okumura Hata, and

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Managed realignment: A viable long-term coastal management strategy? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Climate change and environmental and financial concerns have led to a shift from the traditional ‘hold-the-line’ approach of coastal protection towards more flexible soft engineering options.

Single receiver Long‐Term Evolution passive radar system using signal reconstruction for moving target detection

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
This paper presents a single‐antenna receiver passive radar system in the context of moving target detection such as trains, car, planes and UAVs, leveraging the long‐term evolution (LTE) network as an illumination source. The proposed system uses signal

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
