Medium and Long-Term Voltage Stability

2021
Medium and long-term voltage stability is the stability of a power system that is influenced by slow-changing elements (such as: OEL, OLTC action, power recovery characteristics of loads and others) and the slow changing process of the power system (such as AGC, load growth, operation mode adjustment and others) after the transient stability is ...

Load Models for Long-Term Voltage Stability Assessment

2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA), 2019
This paper considers the polynomial and exponential load models, for the analysis of the parameters behavior, in steady-state perform. The model was made in an electric reference system, in this case 3-Bus system and IEEE 14-Bus system. The development of the analysis is performed to find the cause of the movement, in the load characteristic curve, in ...

VSC-HVDC application to improve the long-term voltage stability

2017 IEEE Manchester PowerTech, 2017
This paper concerns the VSC-HVDC application to improve the long-term voltage stability. For this purpose the NORDIC32 test system is considered. All necessary dynamics to study the long-term voltage stability are included in the test system. An appropriate control strategy for VSC-HVDC is proposed in the paper.

A Data-Based Learning and Control Method for Long-Term Voltage Stability

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2020
Based on the knowledge accumulated off-line and feature extractions, a novel data-based learning and control method is proposed for the long-term voltage stability problem in this paper. All the spatial-temporal data is considered and the features of different emergency events are extracted by principle component analysis which can reduce the dimension

Real-time monitoring of long-term voltage stability via convolutional neural network

2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2017
Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is one of the most promising deep learning technique that has achieved great success in many areas. In this paper, we implement a CNN for real-time monitoring of long-term voltage stability margin (VSM). To clarify our motivations of introducing CNN in this problem, we first discuss the essence and the complicity of ...

Calculating the long term voltage stability margin using a linear index

2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015
Monitoring the long term voltage stability of the power grid is necessary to ensure its secure operation. In this paper, a voltage stability index that is linear with the power demand, called the M-index, based only on angles is proposed. The linearity of the M-index can be utilized to estimate the load margin directly.

Long-term voltage stability analysis and network topology in power systems

2016 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2016
This paper is aimed to explore the relationship between the network topology and the network performance in terms of long-term voltage stability. For this purpose, performance indicators for taking into account both aspects are proposed. A six bus test system is proposed, two operational conditions are presented, and eight different grid topologies are

Online Long-term Voltage Stability Assessment Based on Time Series Shapelet Extraction

2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia), 2018
With the popularity of phasor measurement units (PMUs) in power grids, access to real-time power system operating data becomes possible and data-driven method provides a new approach to the research on voltage stability. In this work, we propose an online long-term voltage stability assessment scheme based on time series shapelet.

Real-time monitoring of long-term voltage stability via local linear regression

2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015
A novel approach for real-time monitoring of long-term voltage stability using local linear regression and adaptive training database is proposed in this paper. Comparing to previous methods, the proposed local predictive regression model could properly balance the simplicity/transparency and accuracy, and it is also adaptive to the changes of system ...
