Development of Coilable Longerons Using Elastic Memory Composite Material

43rd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2002
Elastic Memory Composite (EMC) materials can accommodate very high packaging strains without damage and have significant potential for application to deployable space structures that rely on stored strain energy for deployment. The key difference between EMC materials and traditional carbon-fiber-reinforced composites is a shape memory polymer matrix ...

Scale levels for fatigue fracture mechanisms of in-service crack growth in longerons of helicopter rotor blades

International Journal of Fracture, 2004
Cases of in-service fatigue crack growth in aluminium longerons of helicopter Mi-8 rotor blades were reviewed. Fatigue fracture surface patterns for micro- and meso-scale levels of crack growth mechanisms for in-service fatigued longerons are discussed.

QUANTITATIVE FRACTOGRAPHIC ANALYSES OF FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH IN LONGERONS OF IN-SERVICE HELICOPTER ROTOR-BLADES

Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures, 1996
Abstract— An analysis is made of striation spacing measurements as observed on fatigue crack surfaces of specimens and longerons of helicopter rotor‐blades made from the aluminium alloy AVT. It is shown that, for the combined cyclic tensile stresses at various R‐ratios and static rotation angles, α, striation spacings were controlled by an equivalent ...

Development and structural analysis on longeron cross sectional area in a flat stiffened panel with a broken central longeron

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2022
Abstract A substantial amount of parametric analysis and testing is carried out in the design and construction process for a large transport aircraft to achieve an optimal structure. One of the damage tolerance design objectives of any large transport aircraft is a two bay crack arrest in a circumferential direction. In this crack arrest ability, the
