Longevity and Aggregate Savings [PDF]

open access: yes
For the last fifty years, countries in Asia and elsewhere have witnessed a surge in aggregate savings per capita. Some empirical studies attribute this trend to the increases in life longevity of the populations of these countries.

LipoGels: Robust Self‐Lubricating Physically Cross‐Linked Alginate Hydrogels Embedded with Liposomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Physically cross‐linked alginate hydrogels embedded with 1,2‐dipalmitoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine liposomes (LipoGels) are prepared under optimized conditions to avoid shrinkage and achieve structural uniformity. LipoGels demonstrate robust mechanical strength (Young's modulus ≈1 MPa), excellent lubrication (friction coefficient ≈0.021), and ...

Microscale Tin–Bismuth Alloy Prepared via Cooling Rate Control as Anode Material for High‐Performance Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To investigate the mechanisms about the enhanced buffering effect and morphological retention in fully lithiated Sn–Bi alloys, this study introduces a new bulk bimetallic Sn–Bi alloy with fine grains of uniformly distributed Sn and Bi alloys (≈50 nm) via cooling rate control. This design effectively relieves internal energy buildup and suppresses crack

Cognitive abilities predict naturalistic speech length in older adults

open access: yesScientific Reports
Past research has demonstrated the association between social engagement and the maintenance of cognitive abilities. However, inconsistent definitions of social engagement have posed challenges to systematically investigate this association.

Quantifying Spatio‐Operational Heterogeneity in Electrochemical Devices via Operando Correlative Neutron and X‐Ray Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heterogeniety in electrochemical systems heavily influences device performance and durability. The study shows unique evidence of spatio‐operational heterogeneity in fuel cells via operando neutron and X‐ray tomography. Large variations in membrane thickness and hydration depend upon location and operating conditions, with implications on membrane ...

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.
