Astrocyte heterogeneity in brain metastases

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Astrocytes emerge as pivotal regulators of metastatic colonization, survival, immune remodeling, and therapy response associated with an increasing heterogeneity that requires spatially and longitudinally resolved approaches to uncover regulatory programs and guide context‐specific therapies.

Nonlinear Longitudinal Shear Distribution in Steel-Concrete Composite Beams

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering, 2019
This paper describes a fiber-based model proposed for computing the nonlinear longitudinal shear distribution in composite steel-concrete beams. The presented method incorporates the accurate stress-strain relationship with strain softening for concrete ...

The spatial distribution of radiodense breast tissue: a longitudinal study [PDF]

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2009
Abstract Introduction Mammographic breast density is one of the strongest known markers of susceptibility to breast cancer. To date research into density has relied on a single measure (for example, percent density (PD)) summarising the average level of density for the whole breast, with no consideration ...

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

The main component analysis of the longitudinal distribution of solar activity [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1991
Abstract In this contribution, preliminary results of the main component analysis of Bartels diagram of time series of daily values of sunspot group numbers for solar cycles 18, 19 and 20 are presented. The results obtained suggest that the most significant feature in the longitudinal distribution of sunspot activity is the existence of preferred solar

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Longitudinal electron bunch diagnostics using coherent transition radiation

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
The longitudinal charge distribution of electron bunches in the Fermilab/NICADD photoinjector was determined using the coherent transition radiation produced by electrons passing through a thin metallic foil.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

On hydraulic analysis of the main parameters of longitudinalcirculating flow

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Engineering Research, 2018
Recently in practice of engineering hydraulic structures spillways with a longitudinal-circulating flow are applied. The distinguished properties of longitudinal-circulating flows are a unique example of compatibility of flow type with technological ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.
