Longitudinal vibrations in violin strings

Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
We report the observation of longitudinal vibrations in violin strings excited by bowing. These vibrations are detected from the rocking motion of the top of the bridge in the direction longitudinal to the strings, with the aid of a photoelectric device.

Longitudinal vibrations of the relativistic string

Physical Review D, 1978
The question of the existence of longitudinal solutions to the massless relativistic string is addressed. In one space and one time dimension, M/sub 1//sub +/1, the classical string solutions are obtained by explicit construction in terms of step functions. No classical solutions exist with only a finite number of modes.

Momentum of Longitudinal Elastic Vibrations

American Journal of Physics, 1968
The field-theoretic momentum of longitudinal vibrations in an elastic medium is not the same as the total momentum of the particles which constitute the medium. In this article, we discuss the connection between these two quantities in terms of a new conservation law which follows from an underlying symmetry of the system.

Longitudinal Vibrations of Piezoceramic Rods

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2001
The problem of dynamical electroelasticity for the infinite rod (plane problem) is considered. At two cross-sections of the rod there are electrodes which excite pulses varying in time. The aim of the paper is to determine taking off electric energy generated by longitudinal compressed pulse passing through the part between electrodes.

LONGITUDINAL VIBRATION

Journal of the American Society for Naval Engineers, 1949
This article was published in the August 1949 Journal. it is here reprinted to correct symbol errors in the original printing. This printing is a substitute for pages 597–598 of the August issue.

Longitudinal Vibrations of Embankment Dams

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1981
This paper presents an analytical method to study free and forced longitudinal vibrations of embankment dams. Both shear and dilatational deformations are taken into account, and the dam is modeled as a linear homogeneous prism with a wedge-shape cross section, bounded by two vertical (abutment) and one horizontal (riverbed) planes.

Finite longitudinal vibrations

Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - Section A, 1947
The theory of Finite Strain gives the interesting result that the differential equation for finite longitudinal vibrations of strings and rods is the same as the general equation for long waves.

On the longitudinal vibration in metal rods

European Journal of Physics, 1991
It is shown that accurate values of the velocity of sound in metal rods can be obtained using a simple equipment in an undergraduate physics ...

Longitudinal vibrations of a rod with a coating

Strength of Materials, 1994
A solution is obtained to the problem of the longitudinal vibration of a rod with a coating. The solution is obtained in a refined formulation. The same theoretical model is also used to find the solution for the case of static tension. An analysis is made of the way in which the properties of a deformable rod are affected by the stiffness of the shear
