Estimation of longshore sediment transport: the case of Lithuania

2022
<p>The Baltic Sea is a semi-enclosed sea that connects with the Global ocean through the Danish straits. The Lithuanian coast of the Baltic Sea is a generic type of almost straight, relatively high-energy, actively developing coasts that (1) contain a large amount of finer, mobile sediment, (2) are open to predominating wind and wave ...

Longshore sediment transport by tidal currents

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1980
A mechanism for longshore sediment transport outside the surf zone is proposed on the basis of the variation in bottom stress under stationary waves produced by tidal depth changes. The variation in stress is in phase with the longshore component of tidal velocity and is shown to produce a net transport counter to the direction of the advance of the ...

Peak longshore sediment transport for storm waves

open access: yesEstuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science
Beach sediments are suspended by breaking waves and dissipate across/along the shore under oblique wave action. With horizontal behavior in their transport, they play an important role in longshore sediment transport and shoreline change.

Long-term variation of longshore sediment transport

Coastal Engineering, 1987
Abstract For planning and designing a new harbour located on the sand coast of Nouakchott, Mauretania, the Bijker formula was adopted to compute the longshore sediment transport. The shoreline is nearly straight at this site. The beach is composed of fine sand with a median grain diameter of D 50 = 200 μm. The beach slope is about 1:20.

Longshore Sediment Transport on Mediterranean Coast of Israel

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1999
A modified version of the CERC formula, which relates longshore sediment drift to deep water wave height and direction, has been used to define the equivalent wave height. The directional distribution of these wave heights and corresponding sediment transport rates and their analytical approximations are found using statistical analysis of high quality

Longshore Sediment Transport by Nonlinear Waves and Currents

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 2004
A time-dependent model for obliquely incident nonlinear waves is developed and applied to predict longshore current and sediment transport. The wave model is based on the Boussinesq equations for breaking and nonbreaking waves. Wave breaking is introduced by adopting the surface roller concept.

Longshore Sediment Transport Modelling: An Application Ordu

2007
To simulate the long-term evolution of the beach of Cumhuriyet and Turna Suyu (city of Ordu) located at the Black Sea coastline of Turkey in response to imposed wave conditions and coastal structures, numerical model GENESIS (GENEralized Model for SImulating Shoreline Change) has been applied.

Longshore Sediment Transport and Breakwater Layout Optimization

2009
Breakwater layout directly affect the magnitude and distribution of sedimentation at coastal harbors and other infrastructures. Though previous studies explored the mechanism of rapid sedimentations with various mitigation engineering measures proposed there has been no widely-accepted principle guiding the optimum design of breakwater layout.

Short-term impoundment of longshore sediment transport

2023
Abstract:The cross-shore distribution of longshore sediment transport is investigated through the distribution of sediment impounded against a shore-perpendicular barrier over short-term intervals in field and laboratory environments. For each field experiment, a low-profile groyne was deployed across a natural beach in less than 8 hr, and profiles ...
