An improved loop test for experimentally approaching the intrinsic strength of alumina nanoscale whiskers [PDF]

open access: yesNanotechnology, 2013
An improved loop test, which consists of twisting a loop in a nanoscale whisker adhered to a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grid or other flat substrate and pulling the ends until the loop breaks, was developed for experimentally approaching the intrinsic strength of the whisker material.

Closed-loop system for assisted strength exercising

2013
Accurate assessment of the qualitative and quantitative aspects of physical activity is considered very important in order to achieve better results in rehabilitation or training. We have developed Wireless Body Area Network for continuous and personalized health monitoring of basic physiological parameters (ECG, breathing rate and body temperature ...

The sink strength of a dislocation loop in the effective medium approximation

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1981
Abstract A method was developed for calculating the sink strength and bias of dislocation loops within the effective medium approximation of Brailsford, Bullough and Hayns. The boundary condition on the toroidal sink surface was replaced by a rate-limiting boundary condition on a sphere enclosing the loop.

Feed-forward loop between body composition, strength and performance in older adults

Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 2019
Frailty syndrome is hypothesized to arise from malfunction in feedback mechanisms among interacting physiological systems. However, empirical evidence to support this hypothesis is not yet available. We present evidence of a feed-forward loop relationship between certain components of the frailty syndrome: body composition, strength and physical ...

Bonding strength analysis for curing-in-the-loop precision bonding (Conference Presentation)

Components and Packaging for Laser Systems V, 2019
In micro-assembly of optical systems, active alignment can help to relax tolerances and guarantee optimal results for individual units by evaluating the actual system performance or suitable key-performance-indicators. Combined with capable micromanipulator technology bonding becomes the limiting factor in the overall assembly process.

Numerical evaluation of dislocation loop sink strengths: A phase-field approach

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2015
Abstract A phase-field method is applied to compute the sink strength of dislocation loops in irradiated materials. This model enables to consider various sink geometries and long range elastic interactions between dislocation loops and migrating defects. Our results show that the analytical solutions underestimate the sink strength of loops.
