The spectral geometry of de Sitter space in asymptotic safety

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
Within the functional renormalization group approach to Background Independent quantum gravity, we explore the scale dependent effective geometry of the de Sitter solution dS4.

Mechanically Mutable Matrices: A Hierarchical Investigation of Decellularized Sea Cucumber Collagen as an Adaptable Scaffold Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sea cucumber mutable collagenous tissue (MCT) is a remarkable collagen‐based material which can rapidly undergo large changes in stiffness through transiently bound effector proteins. Here, we investigate the hierarchical structure and mechanical response of MCT from Cucumaria frondosa across length scales with a wide range of methods, also exploring ...

Matrix theory reloaded: a BPS road to holography

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We revisit the decoupling limits that lead to matrix theories on D-branes. We highlight the BPS nature of these limits, in which the target space geometry becomes non-Lorentzian and wrapped D-branes experience instantaneous gravitational forces.

Two‐Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL) of High Mechanical and Optical Quality 3D Silica Glass Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon grayscale lithography (2GL) enables high‐speed and precise 3D printing of thermolyzed silica glass microstructures with optical‐grade surface quality, high quality factors, and mechanical strength utilizing a custom‐made pre‐glass resist based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) modified with a high‐sensitivity Norrish type II ...

High‐Performance n‐Type Organic Thermoelectrics Enabled by Control Over Microstructure, Orientation and Contact Plane in Naphthalenediimide‐Bithiazole‐Copolymer Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Effective control over the crystalline contact plane and microstructure of a naphthalenediimide‐bithiazole copolymer enables high‐performance n‐type thermoelectrics. While rubbing alignment induces a detrimental edge‐on orientation, subsequent solvent vapor‐induced re‐orientation facilitates a favorable mixed face‐on/edge‐on morphology.

Observation of Fano line shape in directional fluorescence emission mediated by coupled planar waveguide modes and interpretation based on Lorentz reciprocity

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Using a reverse attenuated-total-reflection geometry, we measured angle-scan fluorescence emission spectra of all-dielectric multilayer samples containing a waveguide layer doped with fluorescent dye molecules (fluorescent waveguide layer).

Nanodiamond Sensing in Dynamic Environments With Fast‐Tracking Through Four‐Point Positioning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A four‐point positioning tracking (4PPT) platform enables fast 3D feedback translational tracking of fluorescent nanodiamonds while simultaneously recording ODMR spectra. By integrating real‐time translational tracking with quantum sensing, mobile nanodiamonds are used for in‐situ nanothermometry, nanorheometry, and 6D translation–rotation tracking in ...

Fracton and non-Lorentzian particle duality: gauge field couplings and geometric implications

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Fractons, characterized by restricted mobility and governed by higher-moment conservation laws, represent a novel phase of matter with deep connections to tensor gauge theories and emergent gravity.

About Twistor Spinors with Zero in Lorentzian Geometry

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2009
We describe the local conformal geometry of a Lorentzian spin manifold (M,g) admitting a twistor spinor φ with zero. Moreover, we describe the shape of the zero set of φ.

On a problem of Osserman in Lorentzian geometry

open access: yesDifferential Geometry and its Applications, 1997
If \((M,g)\) is a pseudo-Riemannian manifold with curvature tensor \(R\), then for every tangent vector \(v\in T_pM\) the selfadjoint operator \(R_v: (\mathbb{R} v)^\perp \to (\mathbb{R} v)^\perp\), \(x\mapsto R(x,v)v\), is called the associated Jacobi operator.
