An alternative measure of economic inequality under the Lorenz curve framework in analogue to the index of refraction of geometrical optics [PDF]
Index of refraction is found to be a good measure of economic inequality within the Lorenz curve framework. It has origin in geometrical optics, where it measures bending of a ray of light passing from one transparent medium into another.

Abstract Disturbed sleep is a known risk factor for heightened mental health symptoms, and this association may be particularly problematic among emergency medical service (EMS) clinicians. Yet, associations between daily sleep quality and daily mental health symptoms are understudied among this vulnerable group.

Abstract Revision surgery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL‐R) is hypothesized to be the result of an interplay between factors associated with the anatomy, physiological characteristics and environment of the patient. The multifactorial nature of revision ACL‐R risk is difficult to quantify, and evidence regarding the independent ...

Distributional Dominance with Dirty Data [PDF]
Distributional dominance criteria are commonly applied to draw welfare inferences about comparisons, but conclusions drawn from empirical implementations of dominance criteria may be influenced by data contamination.

Electrochemical testing (PD–GS–PD and anodic polarization) was performed for three grades of Austenitic stainless steel with different Mo content. SS316‐2.5Mo demonstrated significantly better corrosion resistance than SS316‐2Mo. Grain refinement was observed with increasing Mo content.

Robust Lorenz Curves: A Semiparametric Approach [PDF]
Lorenz curves and second-order dominance criteria are known to be sensitive to data contamination in the right tail of the distribution. We propose two ways of dealing with the problem: (1) Estimate Lorenz curves using parametric models for income ...

This study introduces material selection maps—that is, charts indicating crevice corrosion resistance as a function of temperature and electrochemical potential—illustrating their applicability using nickel‐based alloy 718 as a case study. Crevice corrosion susceptibility maps developed in this study are a new approach that shows how environmental ...
