A simple method for estimating the Lorenz curve

open access: yesHumanities & Social Sciences Communications, 2021
Given many popular functional forms for the Lorenz curve do not have a closed-form expression for the Gini index and no study has utilized the observed Gini index to estimate parameter(s) associated with the corresponding parametric functional form, a ...

Lorenz Surfaces Based on the Sarmanov–Lee Distribution with Applications to Multidimensional Inequality in Well-Being

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
The purpose of this paper is to derive analytic expressions for the multivariate Lorenz surface for a relevant type of models based on the class of distributions with given marginals described by Sarmanov and Lee.

A Novel Lifetime Model With A Bathtub-Shaped Hazard Rate: Properties & Applications

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering, 2022
A novel three-parameter lifetime model called the Marshall Olkin power Ailamujia (MOPA) distribution is developed. The statistical qualities and reliability characteristics of the proposed model are examined, including moment, generating function ...

GROSS INLAND ENERGY CONSUMPTION INEQUALITY IN EUROPE: AN EMPIRICAL APPROACH

open access: yesRevista de Economía Mundial, 2018
This paper analyses the gross inland energy consumption (EC) in the European Union countries (EU-15) over the period 2005-2014. The standard tools in the measurement of income inequality such as Lorenz curves, Gini index, Generalized Entropy indices and ...

Lorenz Curves, Size Classification, and Dimensions of Bubble Size Distributions

open access: yesEntropy, 2009
Lorenz curves of bubble size distributions and their Gini coefficients characterize demixing processes. Through a systematic size classification, bubble size histograms are generated and investigated concerning their statistical entropy.

Tsallis Log-Scale-Location Models. Moments, Gini Index and Some Stochastic Orders

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this article we give theoretical results for different stochastic orders of a log-scale-location family which uses Tsallis statistics functions. These results describe the inequalities of moments or Gini index according to parameters.

Inequalities in out-of-pocket health expenditure among women of reproductive age: after-effects of national health insurance scheme initiation in Ghana

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Public Health Association, 2021
Background Improvement in maternal healthcare is a public health priority. Unfortunately, in spite of the efforts made over time regarding universal coverage, there remain issues with accessibility and use of healthcare services up to now. In this study,

An Exponential Family of Lorenz Curves [PDF]

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, 2001
A new method for building parametric‐functional families of Lorenz curves, generated from an initial Lorenz curve (which satisfies some regularity conditions), is presented. The method is applied to the exponential family since they use the exponential Lorenz curves as their generating curves.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.
