Bulk‐ and shear‐loss modulus defects in over‐pressured siliciclastic rocks

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2001, 2001
Summary The attenuation mechanisms affecting compressional- and shear-wave propagation at reservoir pressures were studied using a suite of overpressured siliciclastic rocks. A strong link was observed between the petrophysical characteristics of the material, the effective pressure and the wave attenuation mechanism.

Determination of the dynamic shear modulus and loss factor of rubber

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1980
We have recently developed a new resonance theory for the scattering of compressional waves by fluid-filled spherical cavities in viscoelastic materials, and have applied it to the study of the resonance frequencies and widths of peaks in the (monopole) f0pp scattering amplitude.

Specific Features of Strain Dependences of Loss Modulus in Highly Stretched Elastomers

Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 2012
AbstractThe loss modulus E″ in elastomer strips stretched by a factor of λ is studied theoretically. A small oscillating deformation is applied to these strips in the transition frequency zone between the glassy and rubbery states. The range of λ under study ranges up to ultimate extensions close to fracture.

Correlations of the first normal stress difference with shear stress and of the storage modulus with loss modulus for homopolymers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1986
AbstractThe effects of temperature, molecular weight and its distribution, side chain branching, and the structure of polymers on the elastic behavior of bulk homopolymers were investigated, by using logarithmic plots of first normal stress difference (N1) against shear stress (σ12) and logarithmic plots of storage modulus (G′) against loss modulus (G″)

Simple method for determining the critical molecular weight from the loss modulus

Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2004
AbstractThe normal concept is that the critical molecular weight (MC) is about twice as large as the entanglement molecular weight (Me). However, experimental data have shown considerable deviations from MC ≈ 2Me. Furthermore, a determination of MC requires samples with a wide range of molecular weights, including weights lower than MC and higher than ...

Detection of hypercoagulability by the measurement of the dynamic loss modulus of clotting blood

Thrombosis Research, 1982
The dynamic loss modulus of clotting whole blood was measured in thrombotic patients to characterize the physical properties of coagulation in the hypercoagulable state. The dynamic loss modulus was measured by a Sonoclot. Thrombotic patients consisted of 30 with deep vein thrombosis and 25 with arterial thrombosis. An accelerated increment rate of the

Young's Modulus and Mechanical Loss in PZT Ceramics Associated with Phase Transitions

1997
In piezoelectric ceramic lead zirconate titanate (PZT) dielectric loss and mechanical loss are coupled. So, in PZT ceramics used as power transducers, the high mechanical lossresults in an increasing of the temperature which contributes to reducing the intensity of polarization.
