Experimental study of on-body radio channel performance of a compact ultra wideband antenna [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, on-body radio channel performance of a compact ultra wideband (UWB) antenna is investigated for body-centric wireless communications.

Variance Reduction in Simulations of Loss Models [PDF]

open access: yesOperations Research, 1999
We propose a new estimator of steady-state blocking probabilities for simulations of stochastic loss models that can be much more efficient than the natural estimator (ratio of losses to arrivals). The proposed estimator is a convex combination of the natural estimator and an indirect estimator based on the average number of customers in service ...

Prolonged Corrected QT Interval as an Early Electrocardiographic Marker of Cyclophosphamide‐Induced Cardiotoxicity in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Patients

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cyclophosphamide (CY) is associated with potentially fatal cardiotoxicity, yet no electrocardiographic indices have been established for early detection of CY‐induced cardiomyopathy. This study aimed to determine whether corrected QT interval (QTc) prolongation can predict early onset of CY‐related cardiac dysfunction in pediatric ...

Predicting Chronicity in Children and Adolescents With Newly Diagnosed Immune Thrombocytopenia at the Timepoint of Diagnosis Using Machine Learning‐Based Approaches

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify predictors of chronic ITP (cITP) and to develop a model based on several machine learning (ML) methods to estimate the individual risk of chronicity at the timepoint of diagnosis. Methods We analyzed a longitudinal cohort of 944 children enrolled in the Intercontinental Cooperative immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Study ...

Urban Flood Susceptibility Mapping for Toronto, Canada, Using Supervised Regression and Machine Learning Models

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management
Floods are one of the most devastating natural hazards, causing adverse effects on human life, well‐being, property, and the environment. The application of five machine‐learning techniques in pluvial flood susceptibility mapping was investigated using ...

Additively Manufactured Transverse Flux Machine Components with Integrated Slits for Loss Reduction

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) was used to produce stator half-shells of a transverse flux machine from pure iron (99.9% Fe). In order to reduce iron losses in the bulk components, radially extending slits with a nominal width of 150 and 300 µm ...

Collisional parton energy loss in a finite size QCD medium revisited: Off mass-shell effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We study the collisional energy loss mechanism for particles produced off mass-shell in a finite size QCD medium. The off mass-shell effects introduced are to consider particles produced in wave packets instead of plane waves and the length scale ...

Reduction of Oil Shale Losses

open access: yesEnvironment. Technology. Resources. Proceedings of the International Scientific and Practical Conference, 2015
Oil shale utilisation losses reach 70% in some cases. These are closely related to legislation, backfilling and waste rock usage. Much smaller sections include production of oil, electricity and chemicals in which most of the research and development is performed today. Current urgent topics for investigating, testing and developing of oil shale mining

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Multi-Objective Decision Approach for Optimal Real-Time Switching Sequence of Network Reconfiguration Realizing Maximum Load Capacity

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
One of the most famous methods for minimizing power loss is distribution network reconfiguration (DNR). Accordingly, many researchers have focused their work on finding a network’s optimal configuration in planning mode.
