A successively refinable lossless image-coding algorithm

open access: yes, 2005
We present a compression technique that provides progressive transmission as well as lossless and near-lossless compression in a single framework.

Record Index–Bandgap Trade‐Off: CdPS3 as a High‐Index van der Waals Platform for Ultraviolet–Visible Nanophotonics

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 11, 13 June 2026.
The fundamental index–bandgap trade‐off strictly limits materials for short‐wavelength nanophotonics. The van der Waals crystal CdPS3 emerges as a compelling alternative platform challenging this paradigm. Combining an exceptionally high refractive index approaching 3 with a broad mid‐infrared‐to‐ultraviolet transparency window, CdPS3 unlocks new ...

Tunable Plasmon‐Enhanced Wide‐Angle Terahertz Perfect Absorption via Lorentz Media

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 11, 13 June 2026.
A planar graphene‐Lorentz‐DBR structure realizes wide‐angle terahertz perfect absorption through a composite phase‐amplitude matching mechanism. The Lorentz dielectric provides dispersive phase compensation and controlled loss, whereas graphene supports dissipative coupling, enabling high absorption up to 80° incidence and multichannel spectral ...

Lossless Microarray Image Compression by Hardware Array Compactor

open access: yesIranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2005
Microarray technology is a new and powerful tool for concurrent monitoring of large number of genes expressions. Each microarray experiment produces hundreds of images. Each digital image requires a large storage space.

Brillouin Zone Folding‐Driven Topological Band Flips Based on BICs via Twisted Photonic Crystals

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 11, 13 June 2026.
Brillouin zone folding (BZF)‐driven topological band flips are demonstrated via twisted photonic crystals (PhCs) incorporating bound states in the continuum (BICs). Twist perturbation generates three new bands, each linked to either a BIC or a guided‐mode resonance (GMR).

Hybrid plasmonic waveguide with gain medium for lossless propagation with nanoscale confinement

open access: yes, 2011
In this Letter, we propose a hybrid plasmonic nanosystem consisting of a silver cladding layer with a semicylinder bump on top of InGaAsP nanowire. Because of the coupling between the dielectric waveguide mode and surface plasmon polariton mode, the ...

Light‐Induced Entropy for Secure Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 33, 12 June 2026.
This work realized a ternary true random number generator by exploiting stochastic traps emerging within multiple junction interfaces, and quantitatively validated the generation of high‐quality random numbers. Furthermore, it successfully demonstrated diverse applications, including AI‐resilient image security, thereby providing a valuable guide for ...

Generating Circularly Polarized Light Using Hybrid Near‐Zero and High‐Index Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
A flat‐optics approach to manipulating the polarization state of light is proposed using evanescent‐wave interactions in hybrid epsilon‐near‐zero and high‐index materials. The design enables linear‐to‐circular polarization conversion in a wavelength‐scale device design without depending on patterning or bulky optics and operates in both reflection and ...
