Lossy Image Compression with Compressive Autoencoders
We propose a new approach to the problem of optimizing autoencoders for lossy image compression. New media formats, changing hardware technology, as well as diverse requirements and content types create a need for compression algo- rithms which are more flexible than existing codecs.

HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

An MCMC Approach to Universal Lossy Compression of Analog Sources
Motivated by the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach to the compression of discrete sources developed by Jalali and Weissman, we propose a lossy compression algorithm for analog sources that relies on a finite reproduction alphabet, which grows with

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Review of Very Low Bitrate Image Compression Techniques
Image is one of the important ways to obtain information. With the increasing demand of image transmission and storage, especially in bandwidth limited or cloud storage situations, compressing images at extremely low bitrates is of great significance for

HYBRID COMPRESSION OF CERVICAL IMAGES BY SEGMENTING NUCLEI-CYTOPLASM [PDF]
A hybrid image compression method is proposed by which the Nuclei-Cytoplasm of the image is completely restorable and the background part of the image is restorable with insignificant loss.

Optimizing Lossy Compression Rate-Distortion from Automatic Online Selection between SZ and ZFP
With ever-increasing volumes of scientific data produced by HPC applications, significantly reducing data size is critical because of limited capacity of storage space and potential bottlenecks on I/O or networks in writing/reading or transferring data ...

On Macroscopic Complexity and Perceptual Coding [PDF]
The theoretical limits of 'lossy' data compression algorithms are considered. The complexity of an object as seen by a macroscopic observer is the size of the perceptual code which discards all information that can be lost without altering the perception

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
