Structural Properties of Lot Streaming in a Flow Shop

Mathematics of Operations Research, 1998
Lot streaming is the process of splitting a given lot or job to allow the overlapping of successive operations in multi-stage production systems, thereby reducing the makespan of the corresponding schedule. This paper considers the problem of finding sublot sizes to minimize the makespan for a single job in an m-machine flow shop. On each machine, the

Lot streaming in a two-machine mixed shop

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2009
Most classical scheduling models overlook the fact that products are often produced in job lots and assume that job lots are indivisible single entities, although an entire job lot consists of many identical items. However, splitting an entire lot (process batch) into sublots (transfer batches) to be moved to downstream machines allows the overlapping ...

Two-machine lot streaming with attached setup times

IIE Transactions, 2012
Lot streaming is a fundamental production scheduling technique to squeeze manufacturing lead times by splitting a large lot of n identical items into sublots. This article presents a full characterization of optimal solutions for two-stage lot streaming with attached machine setup times to minimize the makespan.

Lot streaming multiple jobs in a flow shop

International Journal of Production Research, 2011
In this article we consider the advantages of applying lot streaming in a multiple job flow-shop context. The lot streaming process of splitting jobs into sublots to allow overlapping between successive operations has been shown to reduce makespan and thus increase customer satisfaction.

Lot Streaming Techniques

2019
In batch manufacturing, the items are groupedinto batches. These batches are treated as individual jobs and they are notsplitted. However, if batch sizes are large, it may be beneficial to splitthese batchesinto smaller transfer lots which is known as lot streaming.

Lot streaming in M-1 hybrid flowshops

2014
This paper introduces the balanced-workload idea to solve the multi-job lot streaming problem in two-stage hybrid flow shops with m identical machines at stage 1 and a single machine at stage 2. From the worst case analysis and computational experiments to the single job problem, this idea is proved to be a very close estimation for most cases.
