The Lancet, 1968Abstract The abrupt rise of body-temperature, arterial pressure, heart-rate, and respiratory rate and worsening of the lesions when spirochaetes are disappearing from the blood of patients with louse-borne relapsing fever, either spontaneously or after treatment, resemble events of the Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction.

Louse-borne relapsing fever in Ethiopian children: a clinical study
Annals of Tropical Paediatrics, 1993An outbreak of louse-borne relapsing fever, caused by the return to their original recruitment areas of soldiers at the end of 30 years of fighting in northern Ethiopia, was reported in the Arsi region. We studied 103 infants and children with louse-borne relapsing fever who were admitted to Asella Hospital between 1 May 1991 and 30 April 1992.

Characteristics of louse-borne relapsing fever in Ethiopian children and adults
Annals of Tropical Medicine & Parasitology, 2004Louse-borne relapsing fever (LBRF) is endemic in Ethiopia. The epidemiological and clinical aspects of LBRF and the differences between the infection in children and that in adults were investigated in a rural hospital in Ethiopia. During the 5-year study (1997-2002), 197 patients had a confirmed diagnosis of LBRF.

Louse-borne relapsing fever in Ethiopian children: experience of a rural hospital
Tropical Doctor, 2009We describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of louse-borne relapsing fever (LBRF) in a series of children attending in a rural hospital in Ethiopia during 1997–2007. From a total of 249 cases of LBRF, 154 (61.4%) were children (> 15 years). The most frequent symptoms were: fever, headache, dizziness and musculoskeletal pains.

Louse-borne relapsing fever in children.
The Journal of tropical medicine and hygiene, 1992Clinical manifestations of louse-borne relapsing fever (LBRF) in children admitted to Jimma Teaching Hospital from March 1991 to September 1991 are described. The clinical manifestations were mild and the frequency of occurrence of each feature was lower than in adults. Jaundice and cardiac abnormality have not been found in children.

Mean titers of Hageman factor, prekallikrein, and hemolytic complement were decreased at the time of admission and 2 hours after treatment during the jarisch-Herxheimer-like reaction (JHR).
