Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) Codes

2012
In this chapter, low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, a class of powerful iteratively decodable error correcting codes, are introduced. The chapter first reviews some basic concepts and results in information theory such as Shannon’s channel capacity and channel coding theorem. It then overviews the Flash memory channel model.

Design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for high order constellations

IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2004. GLOBECOM '04., 2005
In this paper, we propose a simple design of LDPC codes which combines the good properties of multilevel coding (MLC) and bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) schemes with Gray-mapped PAM constellations and one-shot demodulation. Through simulations, we show that it performs better than MLC/parallel independent decoding for short-medium lengths ...

Low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded MIMO systems with iterative turbo decoding

2003 IEEE 58th Vehicular Technology Conference. VTC 2003-Fall (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37484), 2003
Transmit diversity schemes have been studied for high spectral-efficiency and high bit-rate transmission, such as multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. In the MIMO system, forward error correction coding is essential for high quality communications.

Low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded OFDM systems with M-PSK

Vehicular Technology Conference. IEEE 55th Vehicular Technology Conference. VTC Spring 2002 (Cat. No.02CH37367), 2003
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a very attractive technique to achieve the high-bit-rate transmission required for future mobile communications. To improve the error rate performance of OFDM, forward error correction coding is essential.

On implementation of min-sum algorithm for decoding low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes

Global Telecommunications Conference, 2002. GLOBECOM '02. IEEE, 2004
This paper is concerned with the implementation issues of the so-called min-sum algorithm (also referred to as max-sum or max-product) for the decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The effects of clipping threshold and the number of quantization bits on the performance of the min-sum algorithm at short and intermediate block lengths are ...

Asymptotic Weight Analysis of Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) Code Ensembles

2008
With the invention of turbo codes in 1993 came increased interest in codes and iterative decoding schemes. Gallager's Regular codes were rediscovered, and irregular codes were introduced. Protograph codes were introduced and analyzed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the early years of this century.

Full Diversity Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) Codes for Block-Fading Channel

2023 International Conference on Electronics, Information, and Communication (ICEIC), 2023
Refereed/Peer-reviewed The main goal of this paper is to design full-diversity and outage achieving LDPC codes over block-fading channels under message passing decoding. This paper presents the derivation of the necessary properties of full diversity LDPC codes under message passing decoding over block-fading channel.

Low-density parity-check code (LDPC) schemes with BICM

International Conference on Communication Technology Proceedings, 2003. ICCT 2003., 2004
LDPC codes are serious opponent of turbo codes. This paper presents LDPC schemes using bit-interleaving coded modulation (BICM), which can increase the spectral efficiency two or three times with little loss of power efficiency. And the decoding complexity is also addressed in this paper.

Low density parity check (LDPC) codes for optical data storage

International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage Topical Meeting, 2003
Low-density parity check (LDPC codes, first introduced by Gallager (1962), are error-correcting codes based on very sparse parity check matrices. Recently, in the wake of excellent performance of turbo codes, LDPC codes were rediscovered as another category of random codes approaching the Shannon capacity limit with practical decoding complexity ...
