Will Radiation-Induced Bystander Effects or Adaptive Responses Impact on the Shape of the Dose Response Relationships at Low Doses of Ionizing Radiation?

open access: yesDose-Response, 2006
Radiation induced bystander effects and adaptive responses are two phenomena that modulate cellular responses to low doses of ionizing radiation. Bystander effects generally exaggerate the effects of low doses of radiation by eliciting detrimental ...

Consequences of Low Dose Ionizing Radiation Exposure on the Hippocampal Microenvironment

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
The response of the brain to irradiation is complex, involving a multitude of stress inducible pathways that regulate neurotransmission within a dynamic microenvironment. While significant past work has detailed the consequences of CNS radiotherapy following relatively high doses (≥ 45 Gy), few studies have been conducted at much lower doses (≤ 2 Gy ...

Resolving Nanoscale Heterogeneities in Lead Halide Perovskites Through Low‐Dose Concurrent 4D‐STEM‐EDX Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mixed‐cation lead mixed‐halide perovskites suffer from structural instabilities linked to nanoscale heterogeneity. To probe this non‐destructively, a low‐dose, concurrent 4D‐STEM and EDX methodology has been developed. Examining a (FA0.83Cs0.17)Pb(I0.8Br0.2)3 film revealed a complex mosaic of coexisting crystal structures. Crucially, local deficiencies

All‐Amyloid Functional Coacervates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an all‐amyloid interfacial complex coacervate technique that employs charge‐mediated or functionalization‐assisted complexation of oppositely charged food protein‐derived amyloid nanofibrils to engineer functional soft constructs across multiple length scales.

Low Dose Ionizing Radiation Responses and Knockdown of ATM Kinase Activity in Glioma Stem Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Genesis of new cells in the mammalian brain has previously been regarded as a negligible event; an assumption that long prevented our understanding in the development of neoplasias.

Side‐Chain‐Induced Interlayer Slipping in Metalloporphyrin COFs Enables Microenvironment and Spin‐State Regulation for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Alkoxy chain length drives a continuous transition from eclipsed AA to a serrated, slipped AA* configuration over Co‐porphyrin COFs. A moderate slip both contracts the pore channel to enrich CO2 and suppress hydrogen evolution, and enhances collective high‐spin of Co sites, which delivers a record CO production rate with high selectivity.

Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Decoding Synergistic Pathways in Bimetallic MOFs for Advanced Oxidation Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a unified framework linking metal pairing and framework design with electronic structure, redox cycling, oxidant activation, reactive‐species generation, and catalytic performance across photocatalytic and oxidant‐based BMOF‐AOPs. The resulting design principles guide the development of hydrolytically stable and efficient BMOFs for

His+ reversions Caused in Salmonella typhimurium by different types of ionizing radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The yield of his+ reversions in the Ames Salmonella tester strain TA2638 has been determined for 60Co γ rays, 140 kV X rays, 5.4 keV characteristic X rays, 2.2 MeV protons, 3.1 MeV α particles, and 18 MeV/U Fe ions.
