Endoscopic image enhancement with noise suppression

open access: yesHealthcare Technology Letters, 2018
Stereoscopic endoscopes have been used increasingly in minimally invasive surgery to visualise the organ surface and manipulate various surgical tools. However, insufficient and irregular light sources become major challenges for endoscopic surgery.

DEEP LEARNING-BASED LOW LIGHT IMAGE ENHANCEMENT FOR IMPROVED VISIBILITY

open access: yes, 2023
Low light conditions pose significant challenges for image capture and processing, leading to degraded image quality with reduced visibility and increased noise.

Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

Performance enhancement of thin-film amorphous silicon solar cells with low cost nanodent plasmonic substrates

open access: yes, 2013
Performance of thin film photovoltaics largely relies on photon absorption capability. Here, we introduce a novel substrate with patterned aluminum nanodent arrays with unique light management capability.

DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Low-Light Image Enhancement Method for Electric Power Operation Sites Considering Strong Light Suppression

open access: yes, 2023
Insufficient light, uneven light, backlighting, and other problems lead to poor visibility of the image of an electric power operation site. Most of the current methods directly enhance the low-light image while ignoring local strong light that may ...

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Troublemaker Learning for Low-Light Image Enhancement

open access: yesProceedings of the 2025 International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval
Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) restores the color and brightness of underexposed images. Supervised methods suffer from high costs in collecting low/normal-light image pairs. Unsupervised methods invest substantial effort in crafting complex loss functions.

Resonant energy transfer in light harvesting and light emitting applications

open access: yes, 2009
The performance of light emitting and light harvesting devices is improved by utilising resonant energy transfer. In lighting applications, the emission energy of a semiconductor heterostructure and the absorption of organic dyes or colloidal quantum ...
