Marginally Stable Nuclear Burning Triggered at Different Depths of the Neutron Star Surface in Low-mass X-Ray Binary 4U 1608-52

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigated the timing and spectral properties of the millihertz quasiperiodic oscillations (mHz QPOs) in the neutron star low-mass X-ray binary 4U 1608–52 using NICER observations. Our analysis reveals a correlation between the QPO frequency and its

Compact objects in active galactic nuclei and X-ray binaries

open access: yes, 2007
In this thesis I study the inner-most regions of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) using the reverberation mapping technique, and neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries in quiescence using X-ray observations. Using the 13-year optical monitoring data for the

Mass distribution of neutron stars and black holes in X-ray binaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
. The aim of this thesis is to make a literature review of the mass distribution of neutron stars and black holes in X-ray binaries. X-ray binaries are binary systems which contain a stellar remnant and a main sequence star.

Thermally Pre‐Formed Reconfigurable Resistive Random‐Access Memory Crossbar Arrays: A Dual‐Mode Platform for Robust Physically Unclonable Functions and In‐Memory Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable RRAM platform utilizing thermally pre‐formed filaments (TPFs) is developed to realize robust hardware security. By exploiting the thermodynamic stochasticity of TPFs, exceptionally reliable physically unclonable functions (PUFs) are achieved.

Disk Instability in Wide Neutron Star Low‐Mass X‐Ray Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1998
Conditions for disk instability in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) have been recently considered with X-ray irradiation of the disk included. Conservative evolution was generally assumed, which, however, fails in wide LMXBs with a neutron star primary (NLMXBs).

Synergistic Cu‐Fe Interactions Enhance Phase Transformation Kinetics Toward High‐Performance CuFeS2‐Based All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CuFeS2 is found to induce the formation of intermediate phases, highlighting a strong Cu–Fe synergistic effect during conversion reactions in lithium all‐solid‐state batteries (Li‐SSBs). The integrated reaction pathway effectively suppresses phase separation and accelerates reaction kinetics, leading to enhanced electrochemical reversibility and ...

Quenching and Recovery of Persistent X-Ray Emission during a Superburst in 4U 1820–30

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the superburst from 4U 1820–30 in 2021 observed by the Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image and Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER).

The globular cluster mass/low mass X-ray binary correlation: implications for kick velocity distributions from supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Optical and X-ray studies of six nearby galaxies show that the probability a globular cluster will be an X-ray source is consistent with being linearly proportional to its mass.

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

A Comprehensive Study of Type I (Thermonuclear) Bursts in the New Transient SRGA J144459.2–604207

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report an analysis of Insight-HXMT observations of the newly discovered accreting millisecond pulsar SRGA J144459.2–604207. During the outburst, detected in 2024 February by SRG/ART-XC, the broadband persistent spectrum was well fitted by an absorbed ...
