Thirty New Low-Mass Spectroscopic Binaries

open access: yes, 2010
As part of our search for young M dwarfs within 25 pc, we acquired high-resolution spectra of 185 low-mass stars compiled by the NStars project that have strong X-ray emission.

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.

The IXPE View of Neutron Star Low-Mass X-ray Binaries

open access: yesGalaxies
Low-mass X-ray binaries hosting weakly magnetized neutron stars (NS-LMXBs) are among the brightest sources in the X-ray sky. Since 2021, the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) has provided new measurements of the X-ray polarization of these sources.

A Large Misalignment between Continuous Jet and Discrete Ejecta in Microquasar GRS 1915+105 during Its Obscured Phase

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report a large misalignment between the continuous jet and the discrete ejecta in GRS 1915+105, detected in 2023 April with the East Asian VLBI network (EAVN).

Long-term Quasiperiodicity in LMXB 4U 1636–536

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present the results of the low-mass X-ray binary 4U 1636–536 study. We performed a temporal analysis of all available RXTE/All-Sky Monitor, RXTE/Proportional Counter Array, Swift/Burst Alert Telescope, and MAXI data collected until the middle of 2022.

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

On the Broadening of the Characteristic Frequency Range toward Higher Photon Energies in the X-Ray Variability of the Black Hole Transient MAXI J1820+070

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Energy-dependent X-ray power spectral states and band-limited noise (BLN) components have been seen in the low-hard state and intermediate states of black hole X-ray binaries.

Additive Manufacturing of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys for Elastocaloric Applications: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing enables complex NiTi architectures that overcome key limitations in elastocaloric refrigeration, including poor heat transfer and high mechanical work input. This review surveys recent advances in LPBF‐ and DED‐fabricated NiTi shape memory alloys for elastocaloric applications, highlighting process–structure–performance ...

Variable Radio Emission of Neutron Star X-Ray Binary Ser X–1 during Its Persistent Soft State

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Ser X–1 is a low-mass neutron star X-ray binary and has been persistently accreting since its discovery in the 1960s. It has always been observed to be in a soft spectral state and has never showed substantial long-term X-ray variability. Ser X–1 has one

A Lack of Radio Emission from Neutron Star Low‐Mass X‐Ray Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2005
We report strict upper limits to the radio luminosities of three neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries obtained with the Very Large Array while they were in hard X-ray states as observed with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer: 1E 1724-307, 4U 1812-12, and SLX 1735-269.
