Low power processing electronics for diabetes
IET Seminar on Biocompatible Materials, 2006This paper presents an implementation of a silicon beta cell for the monitoring and treatment of patients with diabetes. The cell senses glucose and releases insulin. The biphasic insulin release is by exocytosis. Electrically excitable, the cell induces slow wave bursts with superimposed action potentials.
