PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

COMPARING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RANK CORRELATION STATISTICS [PDF]

open access: yes
Rank correlation is a fundamental tool to express dependence in cases in which the data are arranged in order. There are, by contrast, circumstances where the ordinal association is of a nonlinear type.

Iterative Low-rank Network for Hyperspectral Image Denoising

open access: yes
Hyperspectral image (HSI) denoising is a crucial preprocessing step for subsequent tasks. The clean HSI usually reside in a low-dimensional subspace, which can be captured by low-rank and sparse representation, known as the physical prior of HSI.

Graph Regularized Non-Negative Low-Rank Matrix Factorization for Image Clustering

open access: yes, 2017
Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) has been one of the most popular methods for feature learning in the field of machine learning and computer vision.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Rank-probability test of network meta-analyses.

open access: yes, 2016
Intermediate-frequency SWL had the highest rank for success rate, followed by low- and high frequency SWL (A) Low-frequency SWL also ranked highest for low complication rate, (B) High- and intermediate-frequency SWL were ranked lowest for low ...

Beyond Low Rank: Fast Low-Rank + Diagonal Decomposition with a Spectral Approach

open access: yesCoRR
Low-rank plus diagonal (LRPD) decompositions provide a powerful structural model for large covariance matrices, simultaneously capturing global shared factors and localized corrections that arise in covariance estimation, factor analysis, and large-scale kernel learning.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...
