In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Wind tunnel test on low-rise buildings influenced by hillside height in typical mountain terrain

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics
Hills and mountain fields have a high proportion in coastal areas around the world. Especially in China, lots of low-rise buildings are in complex mountain terrain.

The impact of building operations on urban heat/cool islands under urban densification: a comparison between naturally-ventilated and air-conditioned buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many cities are suffering the effects of urban heat islands (UHI) or urban cool islands (UCI) due to rapid urban expansion and numerous infrastructure developments.

Monitoring of wind effects on an instrumented low‐rise building during the landfall of a severe tropical storm

open access: yes, 2017
Tropical cyclone‐induced disasters cause significant economic losses and heavy causalities every year. Most of the casualties were caused by low‐rise buildings collapsing.

Estimation of Wind-Induced Pressures on a Low-Rise Building Using Quasi-Steady Theory

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2016
A quasi-steady (QS) model that includes both the instantaneous wind azimuth and elevation angle is applied and extended to relate the instantaneous wind speeds and roof pressures for a typical low-rise building.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Floor-level premiums in high-rise and low-rise buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper examines a unique feature of multi-storey buildings – floor-level premiums. Floor-level premiums refer to the price paid for the vertical location of a flat, measured by its floor level.
