Exhumation of the Sierra de Cameros (Iberian Range, Spain): constraints from low-temperature thermochronology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present new fission-track and (U–Th)/He data from apatite and zircon in order to reconstruct the exhumation of the Sierra de Cameros, in the northwestern part of Iberian Range, Spain. Zircon fission-track ages from samples from the depocentre of the

Fault systems impede incision of the Yarlung river into the Tibetan plateau

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2023
It is widely accepted that tectonics generally enhances river incision. However, why rivers have not incised further into orogenic plateaus to destroy terrains over long-time scales remains ambiguous.

The thermal history of the Western Irish onshore [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present here a low-temperature thermochronological study that combines the apatite fission-track and (U + Th)/He dating methods with a pseudo-vertical sampling approach to generate continuous and well-constrained temperature–time histories from the ...

Thermochronologic Constraints on the Extensional History of the Ibex Hills, Southeastern Black Mountains, Death Valley, California

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
A. Modeled T‐t paths for samples in the northern Ibex Hills, showing steady cooling throughout much of the Cenozoic, until rapid Miocene cooling. B. Weighted mean paths for each sample in this study. Note that all show a rapid cooling event at or just after 10 Ma, which is interpreted to represent exhumation as a result of regional extenstion ...

Exhumation history of the Tatry Mountains, Western Carpathians, constrained by low‐temperature thermochronology [PDF]

open access: yesTectonics, 2016
AbstractThis study tests alternative models for the growth of the Tatry Mountains (Central Western Carpathians) by the application of low‐temperature thermochronology. Zircon (U + Th)/He ages from the north of the range are mostly between 48 and 37 Ma and indicate cooling prior to the onset of fore‐arc sedimentation in the region (42–39 Ma).

P–T Modelling Constrains the Depth of Emplacement of the Porto Azzurro Pluton and Implies Minor Exhumation Caused by the Zuccale Fault (Island of Elba, Italy)

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the pressure of emplacement of granitic intrusions is crucial to understanding the exhumation history of plutons and constraining the tectonic setting of magma emplacement. However, P–T and geochronological constraints from exhumed plutons are often characterized by large uncertainties, especially in shallow crustal settings with

Extensional exhumation of cratons: insights from the Early Cretaceous Rio Negro–Juruena belt (Amazonian Craton, Colombia) [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth
This study presents results from apatite fission track (AFT) thermochronology to investigate the thermal history and exhumation dynamics of the Rio Negro–Juruena basement, situated within the western Guiana Shield of the Amazonian Craton.

Late Cenozoic metamorphic evolution and exhumation of Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Taiwan mountain belt is composed of a Cenozoic slate belt (Hsuehshan Range units, HR, and Backbone Slates, BS) and of accreted polymetamorphic basement rocks (Tananao Complex, TC).

Confirming the impact origin of the São Miguel do Tapuio structure, northeastern Brazil

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The São Miguel do Tapuio structure (SMT) is a remarkable, nearcircular feature of about 21 km diameter, centered at 5°37.6′ S, 41°23.3′ W in Piauí state, northeastern Brazil. The structure is located within the sedimentary strata of the Paleozoic–Mesozoic Parnaíba Basin and predominantly comprises sandstones of the Devonian Pimenteiras and ...

The Cenozoic spatiotemporal exhumation of the SE Tibetan Plateau: insight from the data mining and modeling of low-temperature thermochronology

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Introduction: The SE Tibetan Plateau is distinct from other margins due to its high elevation, long wavelength, and low relief. A clear understanding of the Cenozoic exhumation history of this region is the key to understanding the special ...
