Intracontinental Fault Reactivation in High Heat Production Areas of Central Australia: Insights From Apatite Fission Track Thermochronology

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2022
Pervasive intracontinental orogenesis during the Paleozoic has been widely recognized in the metamorphic and structural records of the Aileron Province and Amadeus Basin in central Australia, commonly attributed to the Ordovician–Carboniferous Alice ...

The chronology and tectonic style of landscape evolution along the elevated Atlantic continental margin of South Africa resolved by joint apatite fission track and (U-Th-Sm)/He thermochronology [PDF]

open access: yes
Atlantic-type continental margins have long been considered “passive” tectonic settings throughout the entire postrift phase. Recent studies question the long-term stability of these margins and have shown that postrift uplift and reactivation of ...

Volcanic History of Rodrigues Island and Its Relationship With the Central Indian Ridge and the Réunion Hotspot

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Many intraplate volcanic chains are explained as hotspot trails formed by plate motion over mantle plumes, yet some deviate from this model. The Rodrigues Ridge, a volcanic lineament extending eastward from the Réunion hotspot track toward the Central Indian Ridge (CIR), is one such case.

Patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation deduced from apatite and zircon U-He ages from Fiordland, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
New apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He ages from the Fiordland region of New Zealand's South Island expand on earlier results and provide new constraints on patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation and cooling across this region.

Evolution of the Transantarctic Basin (Southern Gondwana): Insights From Quantitative Sandstone Petrography

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
The deposition of the sandstone sedimentary succession of the Beacon Supergroup lasted more than 200 Myr (Devonian to Early Jurassic) in Victoria Land and nearby territories in the so‐called Transantarctic Basin, recording crucial events in the history of the Earth.

Opposing shear senses in a subdetachment mylonite zone: Implications for core complex mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
[1] Global studies of metamorphic core complexes and low‐angle detachment faults have highlighted a fundamental problem: Since detachments excise crustal section, the relationship between the mylonitic rocks in their footwalls and the brittle deformation

Eocene Tectonic Change in the South Pacific Caused Exhumation of the Transantarctic Mountains in Northern Victoria Land, Antarctica

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
Apatite fission‐track and (U‐Th)/He data indicate rapid exhumation of northern Victoria Land at 40–30 Ma, correlating with opening of Adare Trough at 43–28 Ma. Exhumation was greatest close to the Ross Sea, consistent with other regions of the Transantarctic Mountains.

Technical note: Geodynamic Thermochronology (GDTchron) – A Python package to calculate low-temperature thermochronometric ages from geodynamic numerical models [PDF]

open access: yesGeochronology
Low-temperature thermochronology provides a powerful means of extracting quantitative information on the thermal evolution of different tectonic settings from rocks exposed at the surface of the Earth.
