Fracture toughness and deformation of titanium alloys at low temperatures

Metallurgical Transactions, 1970
Experimental data concerning the influence of compositional, microstructural and textural variations on the fracture toughness and deformation kinetics of α and α-β titanium alloys are presented. In particular, the influence of these parameters on the thermal and athermal components of the flow stress is compared to their influence on fracture ...

Improving the low-temperature toughness of PPR pipe by compounding with PERT

Journal of Polymer Research, 2021
In this research, multi-layer co-extrusion technology was adopted to prepare Polypropylene random copolymer (PPR)/Polyethylene of raised temperature resistance (PERT) composite pipes. The structures and mechanical properties of PPR/PERT composite pipe were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Dynamic thermomechanical analysis (DMA) and ...

Determining the Low-Temperature Fracture Toughness of Asphalt Mixtures

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2002
There has been a sustained effort in applying fracture mechanics concepts to crack formation and propagation in bituminous pavement materials. Adequate fracture resistance is an essential requirement for asphalt pavements built in the northern part of the United States and Canada, for which the prevailing failure mode is cracking due to low ...

Equipment for fracture toughness testing of specimen at low temperatures

Strength of Materials, 1988
1. Equipment was developed and the test procedure proposed for fracture toughness testing compact specimens of structural materials in off-center loading at low temperatures down to 4.2°K. 2. The strain gauges and dynamometer operating-directly in the cryogenic liquids were produced and calibrated at various temperatures.

Low temperature impact toughness of high strength structural steel

Thin-Walled Structures, 2018
Abstract Impact toughness properties of four kinds of high strength steel (HSS) were investigated with the nominal yield strength 460, 690, 800 and 960 MPa, respectively. The specialty of impact toughness among base metal, heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal were also compared and discussed.

Tough and Antifreezing MXene@Au Hydrogel for Low-Temperature Trimethylamine Gas Sensing

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2022
Trimethylamine (TMA) is one of the important chemical indexes to judge the freshness of marine fish. It is necessary to develop a low temperature TMA sensor to help the monitoring and prediction of the quality of marine fish in cold chain. Herein, a flexible low temperature TMA gas sensor featuring antifreezing and superior mechanical properties was ...

Evaluation of Fracture Toughness of Semirigid Asphalt Concretes at Low Temperatures

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2011
The fracture characteristics of semirigid asphalt concrete (SRAC) prepared from a highly porous asphalt mixture (matrix) with 18% to 22% air voids and cement paste were evaluated. Two asphalt binders and several polymer-modified cement pastes that were grouted into the porous matrix were used.

Variation of fracture toughness of asphalt concrete under low temperatures

Construction and Building Materials, 1997
Abstract This study presents the results of experimental evaluation on fracture toughness of asphalt concrete at various low temperatures (from −5°C to −30°C in 5°C steps). An asphalt cement, penetration grade of 85/100 and two aggregates, a granite and a limestone, were used to prepare asphalt concrete beam specimens which were conditioned using two

Fracture toughness of polymer-modified asphalt concrete at low temperatures

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2003
The fracture toughness of asphalt concrete increases at low temperature and then decreases at temperatures below a certain level. Some polymers are known to have the property of improving the temperature susceptibility of asphalt binder at low temperatures.

Effect of the low‐temperature relaxation on toughness of cured epoxy resins

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1994
AbstractThe relation between the magnitude of low‐temperature relaxation and toughness was investigated for epoxy resins cured with some position isomers of naphthalenediols. A well‐defined relaxation was observed near room temperature for a system cured with 2,6‐dihydroxynaphthalene. The relaxation was denoted here as the β′‐relaxation.
