Fiber Metal Laminates under Low Velocity Impact: An Experimental / Analytical Approach [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و تکنولوژی پلیمر, 2012
Fiber/ metal laminates (FMLs) are hybrid composites consisting of alternating thin layers of metal sheets and fiber reinforced epoxy laminates. In this study, the effect of fiber orientation on impact properties of FML plates is investigated both ...

Effect of repair parameters on composite plates under low velocity impact

open access: yesEuropean Mechanical Science, 2022
In this study, the impact behavior of patch-repaired layered composite plates under low velocity impact loads was numerically investigated. For this purpose, layered composite plates with holes with different geometries in the middle were repaired with ...

Modelling of impact damage and permanent indentation on laminate composite plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper deals with impact damage and permanent indentation modelling. A model enabling the formation of damages developing during a low velocity / low energy impact test on laminate composite panels has been elaborated.

Simulations of dense granular gases without gravity with impact-velocity-dependent restitution coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report two-dimensional simulations of strongly vibrated granular materials without gravity. The coefficient of restitution depends on the impact velocity between particles by taking into account both the viscoelastic and plastic deformations of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Fragmentation of ice by low velocity impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Low velocity impact experiments (0.14 to l km/s) carried out in polycrystalline water ice targets at 257 and 81 K resulted in interactions which can be assigned to four fragmentation classes, cratering, erosion, disruption, and total fragmentation ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Regolith behavior under asteroid-level gravity conditions: low-velocity impact experiments

open access: yes, 2018
The dusty regolith covering the surfaces of asteroids and planetary satellites differs in size, shape, and composition from terrestrial soil particles and is subject to very different environmental conditions.
