Low Anterior Resection: Alternative Anastomotic Techniques

Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America, 2010
Low anterior resection (LAR), with its numerous technical modifications, is one of the most commonly performed operations for rectal cancer. In the past, patients with locally advanced distal rectal cancer were most frequently treated by abdominoperineal resection and permanent colostomy.

Robotic Low Anterior Resection

2017
Robotic low anterior resection is performed for patients with carcinoma of the rectum that does not involve the anal sphincters. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.

Low Anterior Resection

1982
As a result of the fundamental contributions of Miles (1908), Westhues (1934), Dixon (1948), and Dukes (1943, 1944) the border of resection of the rectum preserving continence can be placed more and more distally. In recent years there has not only been controversy over anterior resection versus abdominoperineal excision for tumours in the middle third

Low Anterior Resection/Proctectomy

2015
Robotic use in rectal resection is increasing in utility and popularity. Reported benefits of the robotics over traditional laparoscopy are varied. Robotic pelvic dissection is a technically demanding operation. A surgeon who is competent with pelvic laparoscopy may be at an advantage to benefit from the opportunities robotics may offer.

Laparoscopic Low Anterior Resection

2011
ESSENTIAL STEPS 1. Place the patient in the lithotomy position, with both arms tucked and well padded. Secure the patient carefully to the table to avoid movement when the table is tilter. Place a Foley catheter and an orogastric tube. 2. Perform rigid proctosigmoidoscopy to identify and mark the distal margin from the anal verge. 3.

Laparoscopic Low Anterior Resection

1995
Preoperative evaluation of patients undergoing laparoscopic resection is identical to that for open colonic resection. Some feel more compelled to use computered tomography in evaluating the rest of the abdomen since manual exploration is not possible.
