TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

The Correlation Between Low Body Mass Index (underweight) With Bone Strength On Eldery Women

open access: yesSaintika Medika, 2020
Background : Osteoporosis is a degenerative disease that often happend at women in elderly age with low body mass index. Standard examination for osteoporosis is bone density examination also known as Bone Mineral Density (BMD).

Low bone mass in premenopausal chronic dieting obese women [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2004
Obese premenopausal women are thought to be at low risk for osteoporosis due to increased body weight and effects of estrogen on weight-bearing bone.To examine the effect of restrained eating on obese women, we examined bone mineral density (BMD) and content (BMC) of the spine and femur in obese women who were restrained eaters, with emphasis on the ...

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Influence of exercise and sports on bone

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2014
In general, exercise and/or sports are effective for bone health. Bone metabolism is influenced by several environmental factors, especially mechanical loading and nutrition.

CNN-based Automatic Detection of Bone Conditions via Diagnostic CT Images for Osteoporosis Screening [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Purpose: The purpose is to design a novelty automatic diagnostic method for osteoporosis screening by using the potential capability of convolutional neural network (CNN) in feature representation and extraction, which can be incorporated into the procedure of routine CT diagnostic in physical examination thereby improving the osteoporosis diagnosis ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Bone mineral density estimation from a plain X-ray image by learning decomposition into projections of bone-segmented computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Osteoporosis is a prevalent bone disease that causes fractures in fragile bones, leading to a decline in daily living activities. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) are highly accurate for diagnosing osteoporosis; however, these modalities require special equipment and scan protocols. To frequently monitor
