Low frequency photoelastic modulator

Applied Optics, 1984
In this paper, we propose a new excitation mode of a photoelastic modulator previously shown to perform low frequency polarization modulation. Photoacoustic and photothermal polarization spectroscopy is possible with this modulation scheme which has the specific advantages of large light throughput and freedom from mechanical vibrations.

Sound and vibration at low frequencies

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1999
Equal-loudness-level contours are assumed to reflect the frequency sensitivity of the auditory system. Studies on equal-loudness-level contours show considerable differences even when the same measurement method is used. Recent studies [Gabriel et al., DAGA 96; Reckhardt et al., DAGA 97] report on the influence of measurement method, threshold, and ...

On the low-frequency acoustic center

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
Acousticians typically consider the acoustic center of a source to be the point from which sound waves appear to diverge spherically. Many applications require the center's accurate determination, but its deeper significance and means of assessment have often remained ambiguous. This work revisits the acoustic center and shows how a low-frequency sound

Generalized frequency-sum beamforming for low frequencies

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
For direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation in the low-frequency range, we improve spatial resolution using generalized frequency-sum (gFS) beamforming with the Qth order frequency-sum autoproduct. The order Q does not exceed the maximum value, determined by the criteria that the sum of frequencies used to create the autoproduct must be less than the ...

ON LOW AND HIGH FREQUENCY ESTIMATION

Journal of Time Series Analysis, 1996
Abstract. Estimating low or high frequencies is usually more difficult than estimating ordinary frequencies. In this paper, we show that the estimation accuracy depends on the combination of frequency, phase and sample size. For the best case, the mean square error can be smaller than the standard asymptotic Cramèr–Rao bound for an unbiased estimator ...

Impact of Low-Frequency Hearing

Audiology and Neurotology, 2009
Today, cochlear implantation is the treatment of choice in the case of severe to profound hearing loss, but the speech perception abilities of many recipients in noisy conditions are still poor and the overall sound quality and ease of listening still require improvement.

A low frequency oscillator structure

2009 European Conference on Circuit Theory and Design, 2009
We propose a novel RC sinusoidal oscillator architecture suitable for very low frequency generation. The oscillator is also attractive in the sense that the lower the oscillation frequency, the lower the necessary gain required to start oscillations. Further, the proposed architecture is active-circuit-independent and can be realized in any suitable ...

Lateralization of low-frequency transients

Hearing Research, 1983
Abstract Lateralization experiments with several types of interaural delay in transient signals of low frequency extend the observations on lateralization of three tone complexes and indicate that observers are insensitive to interaural group delay in low-frequency transients.

Low Frequency Systems and Enclosures

1997
The vast majority of loudspeaker systems sold today make use of sealed or simple ported LF enclosures. The primary purpose of the enclosure is to act as a baffle, preventing the back wave of the driver from directly canceling that originating at the front of the driver.
