Efficient Adsorption‐Based Direct Air Capture Via Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Architected triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) contactors reshape direct air capture by replacing straight‐channel diffusion limits with convection‐enhanced CO2 transport. Chaotic advection thins boundary layers and exposes fast adsorption sites, enabling 70%–75% more fast sites, 114% higher productivity, and 51.8% lower energy consumption than ...

Numerical simulation of low aspect ratio fixed wings for MAV applications [PDF]

open access: yes
Turbulent flow past low aspect ratio (AR) thin wing with two different planform shapes viz., rectangular and inverse Zimmerman has been carried out at a Reynolds number (Re)=2.4´105 to analyze their aerodynamic characteristics using the Unsteady Reynolds

Stochastic low Reynolds number swimmers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
As technological advances allow us to fabricate smaller autonomous self-propelled devices, it is clear that at some point directed propulsion could not come from pre-specified deterministic periodic deformation of the swimmer's body and we need to ...

CALB2 is a Mechanoresistance Gene in Metastatic Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer cell lines of differing origins were cultured over many passages while being subjected to semi‐lethal levels of fluid shear stress, representing the harsh mechanical environment these cells are subjected to in the circulation during the process of distant metastasis.

A bi-directional low-Reynolds-number swimmer with passive elastic arms [PDF]

open access: yesESAIM: Proceedings and Surveys
It has been recently shown that it is possible to design simple artificial swimmers at low Reynolds number that possess only one degree of freedom and, nevertheless, can overcome Purcell’s celebrated scallop theorem.

Emergent Spinning and Orbital Motion in Clustered Wind‐Assisted Flyers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural snowflake geometries, paper‐cut flyers exhibit geometry‐defined spinning and orbital motions during cluster formation in a wind tunnel. Collective flights of multiple paperflakes reveal dynamic clustering, fragmentation, and continuously evolving spin behaviors.

Nonlinear aspects of high Reynolds number channel flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper considers the flow in a two-dimensional channel at high Reynolds number, with wall deformations which can lead to flow separation. An asymptotic model is proposed by using the successive complementary expansion method with generalized ...

Regulating Droplet Dynamics via Wormlike Micelle Networks: From Splash Suppression to Precise Confined Spreading

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As displayed in Graphical Abstract image.tif, a molecular‐design strategy precisely tailors high‐speed droplet dynamics through programmed surfactant co‐assembly. The structural transition into an entangled wormlike micelle network completely suppresses stochastic splashing on fibrous substrates.

A generalized reciprocal theorem for predicting the force and torque on bodies moving in an unhomogeneous flow at arbitrary reynolds number [PDF]

open access: yes
We present the main ideas behind the derivation and some applications of a theorem that parallels Lorentz’s reciprocal theorem and provides general expressions for the force and torque acting on a rigid body of arbitrary shape moving in an inhomogeneous ...

Pattern‐Aware Intelligence Enables Nondestructive, Rapid Quantification of High‐Aspect‐Ratio Silicon Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pattern‐dependent etching is converted into a physical prior for intelligent reconstruction of high‐aspect‐ratio silicon structures. Combining YOLO‐Pose feature extraction with a topography network, the framework retrieves depth, sidewall angle, and scallop texture from minimal destructive observations, enabling accurate cross‐scale metrology and near ...
