Sub‐1 ms Optoelectronic Synapse Based on {ZnCdO/ZnO} Multilayer Structure for High‐Speed Neuromorphic Vision Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Eu‐doped {ZnCdO/ZnO} structures grown on Si are developed, showcasing dual‐functionality controlled by europium doping. While high europium concentration transforms the device into an ultrafast, self‐powered photodetector, low‐doped structures can be used as an optoelectronic synapse.

Hybrid Ferroelectric Tunnel Junctions with Intrinsic Nonlinearity and Self‐Rectification via Interfacial Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thermal annealing reconstructs the BCFO/Nb:STO interface into an atomically thin reconstructed interfacial layer, which reshapes the tunneling barrier and converts a high‐TER ferroelectric tunnel junction into an intrinsically nonlinear, self‐rectifying device.

Sacrificial‐Layer‐Assisted Heat‐Affected‐Zone Suppression in Laser Patterning of PET for High‐Performance Flexible Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A removable sacrificial polymer layer engineers the thermal boundary condition during nanosecond laser ablation of PET, suppressing heat‐affected‐zone formation without relying on costly ultrafast lasers. This strategy enables deep, high‐aspect‐ratio trenches with no detectable heat‐affected zone, templating silver‐filled mesh electrodes with record ...

Full‐Field Damage Monitoring in Architected Lattices Using In situ Electrical Impedance Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ electrical impedance tomography (EIT) turns 3D‐printed, CNT‐infused architected lattices into full‐field damage‐imaging systems. Tunable Voronoi‐based geometries act as active sensing architectures, enabling conductivity maps to detect early‐stage damage and localise sequential ligament fracture before catastrophic failure.

Analog Classification of Human Hand Gestures Exploiting Dendritic Integration With an Organic Artificial Soma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An organic neuromorphic architecture for the classification of human motor behavior is presented and validated. It performs somatic integration by linearly combining the activity from three muscles. An investigation of synaptic weights is presented and discussed in relationship with the classification performance.

A New Strategy for Creating Quantum Light Emitters Via Post‐Growth Hydrogen‐Ion Irradiation of III‐V Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A post‐growth method is demonstrated to realize energy‐tunable quantum emitters in GaAs/GaAsN/GaAs core–multishell nanowires on a Si substrate. By combining the N‐induced bandgap reduction with H‐ion irradiation, the GaAsN potential landscape is engineered, enabling isolated, narrow emission lines that function as single‐photon sources with g(2)(0) ∼ 0.

Precision of Spacecraft Doppler Tracking at Low Signal‐To‐Noise Ratios

Radio Science, 2023
AbstractThe signal‐to‐noise ratio received at Earth is typically larger than 10 dB‐Hz for radio tracking of a spacecraft in deep space, allowing a phase‐locked loop to execute reliable carrier tracking. Recently, missions have been proposed to utilize low‐gain antennas for Doppler tracking where the signal‐to‐noise ratio may be at the single‐digit (dB ...

Time delay estimation with low signal to noise ratios

ICASSP '84. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
Time delay estimation via cross-correlation exhibits a nonlinear phenomenon in which estimator performance deteriorates rapidly below a certain signal to noise ratio (SNR). This is a consequence of the large variances associated with estimating cross-correlation functions at low SNRs.

Envelope detection at low signal-to-noise ratios

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1969
The apparent reduction in-modulation depth experienced by envelope detected signals at low input signal-to-noise ratios is calculated for two definitions of input S/N. From these results the dependence of output on input S/N over a range is determined and envelope detection threshold levels are defined.

An Approach to Formant Frequency Estimation at Low Signal-to-Noise Ratio

2007 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing - ICASSP '07, 2007
A new approach for the formant frequency estimation of the voiced speech segments in the presence of noise is presented in this paper. A correlation model for the voiced speech is proposed considering the vocal-tract system as an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model with a periodic impulse-train excitation.
