Machine Learning‐Ready Data Sets for the Analysis and Nowcasting of Atmospheric Radiation at Aviation Altitudes

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Nowcasting and forecasting of the radiation environment in the Earth's lower atmosphere are critical for the safety of aircraft and spacecraft crews and passengers. Currently, this problem is addressed by employing statistical and physics‐based models that take into account particle transport and precipitation.

The Constraint of Crewed Mars Missions Based on Current Radiation Dose Measurements

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Crewed missions to Mars will be a milestone of future space exploration programs. However, the absence of Earth's magnetic field leaves astronauts directly exposed to unattenuated energetic particles in deep space, primarily galactic cosmic rays (GCRs), resulting in significantly higher radiation levels and enhanced health risks. Understanding

Shock metamorphic effects in Itokawa phosphates: A comparison with megaregolith‐derived meteorites

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 351-370, March 2026.
Abstract Returned regolith samples from the asteroid Itokawa provide a unique opportunity to compare shock metamorphic effects in unconsolidated regolith materials with those preserved in lithified meteorites, that is, megaregolith. We analyzed four Itokawa particles (Ueda—RA‐QD02‐0519, Narahara—RA‐QD02‐0573, Domon—RA‐QD02‐0588, Ishiuchi—RX‐MD03‐0212 ...

Structural Characteristics and Stellar Composition of Low Surface Brightness Disk Galaxies

open access: yes, 1993
We present UBVI surface photometry of a sample of low surface brightness (LSB) disk galaxies. LSB disk galaxies are fairly well described as exponential disks with no preferred value for either scale length, central surface brightness, or rotational ...

Al‐Khadhaf: The first camera‐observed (H5–6) meteorite fall from Oman

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 522-547, March 2026.
Abstract A fireball camera system installed in 2022 by the Oman Meteorite Monitoring Project (OMMP) as part of the Global Fireball Observatory (GFO) recorded a 3.2 s fireball on March 8, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. UTC. A meteoroid of 4 ± 2 kg entered the atmosphere at 14.0 km/s.

The Contribution of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies to Faint Galaxy Counts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1995
Low Surface-Brightness (LSB) galaxies are severely underrepresented in surveys used to define the local luminosity function (LF), but could it in principle be detected in deep surveys. To explore the possible contribution of such objects to faint galaxy counts, we construct catalogs of simulated non-evolving galaxies drawn from a multivariate ...

Visualization of Ex Vivo Porcine Corneal Endothelial Cells Using Smartphone‐Assisted Specular Reflection With Slit‐Lamp Biomicroscopy

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 29, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To visualize corneal endothelial cells in enucleated porcine eyes using slit‐lamp imaging with a mobile smartphone (SLiM), determine optimal illumination conditions, and explore agreement between SLiM and vital dye stained imaging. Animals Studied Twelve enucleated porcine eyes.

Euclid preparation

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Local Universe dwarf galaxies can serve as both cosmological and mass assembly probes. Deep surveys have enabled the study of these objects down to the low surface brightness (LSB) regime.

The V_c-sigma_c relation in high and low surface brightness galaxies

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate the relation between the asymptotic circular velocity, V_c, and the central stellar velocity dispersion, sigma_c, in galaxies. We consider a new sample of high surface brightness spiral galaxies (HSB), low surface brightness spiral ...

Automatic Search for Low-surface-brightness Galaxies from Sloan Digital Sky Survey Images Using Deep Learning

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Low-surface-brightness (LSB) galaxies play a crucial role in our understanding of galaxy evolution and dark matter cosmology. However, efficiently detecting them in large-scale surveys is challenging, due to their dim appearance.
