σ-phase precipitation in weld metal of austenitic stainless steels and its effect on properties

open access: yesHanjie xuebao
Low-temperature conditions necessitate high toughness in the welded joints of austenitic stainless steel structures. However, the impact toughness of the weld metal decreases significantly when using electrodes developed for SMAW under such conditions ...

Achieving exceptional strength-low temperature toughness synergy in the microalloyed medium carbon steel via layered heterogeneous structure

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The further advancement of microalloyed medium carbon steels is often limited by low-temperature toughness instability. A microalloyed medium carbon steel with both strength and low-temperature toughness was produced through a warm rolling and short-time

Can Elastomers Combine Stiffness, Toughness and Fatigue Resistance?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review studies how the molecular and macroscopic architecture of elastomers influence their mechanical properties including: stiffness, stretchability, toughness, fatigue resistance, and damping behavior. By linking the structure to performance, it proposes design principles for advanced elastomeric systems that combine mechanical properties ...

Magnetic DNA Origami Nanorotors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic actuation is a powerful and broadly applicable actuation mechanism due to its programmability and compatibility with biological entities. Here we demonstrate magnetic DNA origami nanorotors (MADONAs) by assembling magnetic nanocubes on DNA origami.

A Wireless, Passive Multimodal Wearable Sensor With Decoupled Sensing Capabilities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A wireless passive multimodal electronic skin is presented for the simultaneous perception of pressure, humidity, and odor through a frequency‐divided LC resonator array. The decoupled sensing architecture suppresses cross‐interference and enables independent signal readout under superimposed stimuli while maintaining high stability.

Effect of Welding Position on the Low-Temperature Impact Toughness of Weld Metal in High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel

open access: yesJournal of Welding and Joining
The effect of welding position on the mechanical properties of high-strength low-alloy steel weld metals was investigated with an emphasis on low-temperature impact toughness. Welding was performed in horizontal (2G) and vertical-up (3G) positions using two filler wires with different alloying element contents.

1‐D Collocated Dual‐Gradient Sensory Fibers for Comprehensive Sensing and Decoding of Complex Human Motion and Physiology

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Coupled materials design enables a monolithic fiber that integrates complementary sensing regimes into a single wearable strand. By preserving informative signal features across subtle physiological deformation, large body motion, and mixed mechanical inputs, the dual‐gradient architecture generates synchronized, less redundant outputs that improve ...
