Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Optimum thrust programming for low thrust devices

open access: yes, 1964
The use of low thrust devices with continuous and discontinuous thrust programs is investigated to determine whether or not a discontinuous thrust program will provide a greater payload and structure mass fraction, where the program must impart a specified amount of energy to the satellite in a specified total time, starting from a circular parking ...

Rheocasting versus Die Casting: An Insight into the Low‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of AlSi7Mg0.6

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study compares rheocast lightweight components with high‐pressure die cast materials regarding microstructure and fatigue behavior. Rheocast process offers higher efficiency due to lower casting temperatures. Despite some microstructural differences, both processes show similar strengths (yield strength 125 MPa, tensile strength 240 MPa).

Tensile overpressure compartments on low-angle thrust faults

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2017
Hydrothermal extension veins form by hydraulic fracturing under triaxial stress (principal compressive stresses, σ 1 > σ 2 > σ 3) when the pore-fluid pressure, P f, exceeds the least compressive stress by the rock’s tensile strength.

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Online high-precision identification method for ship propeller thrust

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectiveThe weak deformation signal generated by propeller thrust on a shaft system is easily overshadowed by interfering noise, making it challenging to accurately measure the thrust. Therefore, this study proposes a new method for accurately measuring

Sun-synchronous highly elliptical orbits using low-thrust propulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Due to restrictions within the current architecture of the global observing system (GOS), space-based remote sensing of Earth suffers from an acute data-deficit over the critical polar-regions. Currently, observation of high-latitude regions is conducted
