Efeitos de diferentes volumes correntes e da pressão expiratória final positiva sobre a troca gasosa na fístula broncopleural experimental Effects of different tidal volumes and positive end expiratory pressure on gas exchange in experimental bronchopleural fistula

Validation of a tool for estimating clinician recognition of ARDS using data from the international LUNG SAFE study.

open access: yesPLOS Digital Health, 2023
Under-recognition of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by clinicians is an important barrier to adoption of evidence-based practices such as low tidal volume ventilation. The burden created by the COVID-19 pandemic makes it even more critical to

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

Driving pressure is not associated with mortality in mechanically ventilated patients without ARDS

open access: yesCritical Care, 2019
Background In patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), low tidal volume ventilation has been associated with reduced mortality. Driving pressure (tidal volume normalized to respiratory system compliance) may be an even stronger predictor

Evaluating Delivery of Low Tidal Volume Ventilation in Six ICUs Using Electronic Health Record Data*

open access: yesCritical Care Medicine, 2019
Objectives: Mechanical ventilation with low tidal volumes is recommended for all patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome and may be beneficial to other intubated patients, yet consistent implementation remains difficult to obtain.

A Piezo‐Mimetic Ionic Hydrogel Harnessing Joint Motion for Cartilage Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A piezo‐mimetic ionic hydrogel converts mechanical deformation into bioactive ionic currents via stress‐induced asymmetric ion migration. Coupled with sustained Mg2+ release, this mechano‐electrochemical platform bridges mechanical loading and cellular signaling, enabling load‐adaptive stimulation and enhanced cartilage regeneration. ABSTRACT Articular

The Effects of Airway Pressure Release Ventilation on Pulmonary Permeability in Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Pig Models

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the effects of APRV and LTV ventilation on pulmonary permeability in severe ARDS.Methods: Mini Bama adult pigs were randomized into the APRV group (n = 5) and LTV group (n = 5).

Use of low tidal volume in septic shock may decrease severity of subsequent acute lung injury.

open access: yes, 2004
Recent studies have indicated that protective lung strategies may improve outcomes in acute lung injury. We hypothesized that the use of a lower tidal volume early during septic shock may protect against the subsequent development of acute lung injury ...

Prone positioning reduces mortality from acute respiratory distress syndrome in the low tidal volume era: a meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
PurposeProne positioning for ARDS has been performed for decades without definitive evidence of clinical benefit. A recent multicenter trial demonstrated for the first time significantly reduced mortality with prone positioning.
