The biocompatible (co)polymers undergoes a thermal stimulus-driven liquid–liquid phase separation and form coacervates above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The LCSTs are able to be precisely controlled between 0 °C and 100 °C.

Cloud points of aqueous solutions of homogeneous poly(oxyethylene)dodecyl ether derivatives (C12(OE)n: n=2–8) and the apparent theta temperatureTθ ap were determined from the abrupt changes in optical transmittance and the temperature dependence of the second virial coefficient obtained by light scattering ...

The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of non‐polar polymer solutions: An introduction
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1982AbstractThe phase behavior at high temperatures of non‐polar polymer solutions is discussed in a qualitative way in terms of the free volume theory of liquids developed by Prigogine, Patterson and Flory. This theory is necessary to explain the existence of a Lower Critical Solution Temperature (LCST) in non‐polar polymer solutions and the related ...

AbstractThe molecular weight distribution (MWD) of high‐molecular‐weight isotactic polypropylene is measured by a new method developed for polyethylene (PE) using the turbidity at the lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The attenuation of transmitted light hi is measured at Ti as each fraction i is separated from the solution during a ...

The LCST phase-transition of aqueous PNIPA solutions in rising concentrations of the strong chaotropic salt KSCN was studied microcalorimetrically by DSC and apparently for the first time by ITC. An endothermic (entropy driven) binding of KSCN onto PNIPA was observed, explained by electrostatic perturbation of hydrophobic hydration by adsorbed ions.

We proposed a thermoresponsive light scattering device that utilizes the surface behavior between polyimide and an ionic liquid-water mixture exhibiting lower critical solution temperature (LCST)-type phase separation. The LCST behavior for an ionic liquid device utilizing the polyimide with and without alkyl side chains was investigated.
