Fate of Hydrous Fe‐Rich Silicate Melt in Earth's Deep Mantle

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Density of silicate melt dictates melt migration and establishes the gross structure of Earth's interior. However, due to technical challenges, the melt density of relevant compositions is poorly known at deep mantle conditions.

A General Workflow for Tangential Flow Filtration Perfusion Scale‐Up

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tangential flow filtration (TFF) perfusion using hollow‐fiber modules offers substantial advantages over other mammalian cell retention technologies. Recently, increased awareness of Starling flow has helped to enhance filtration performance to similar, or even higher levels compared to alternative technologies.

The Osmium Isotope Signature of Phanerozoic Large Igneous Provinces

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 229-246., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Seismology of the lower mantle and core‐mantle boundary [PDF]

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, 1995
The thermal and chemical processes operating near the core‐mantle boundary (CMB) play a major role in the planet's evolution, influencing the magnetic field behavior, chemical cycling in the mantle, irregularities in the rotation and gravitation of the planet, and the configuration of mantle convection.

The Rich Chemistry of Ionized Methanol With Sulfur Dioxide: Pathways to Prebiotic and Elusive Species in Earth's Atmosphere and Space

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The reaction between the methanol radical cation and sulfur dioxide is remarkably fast and forms several ionic and neutral products (HOSOH+, CH2OSO+, CH2OH+, CH2O, H2O, HSO2). The chemistry goes beyond simple proton or hydrogen transfer, revealing a close interaction between the two species, relevant to atmospheric and astrochemical environments where ...

Does Heterogeneous Strain Act as a Control on Seismic Anisotropy in Earth’s Lower Mantle?

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
Plastic deformation and texture development in minerals of the lower mantle can result in seismic anisotropy, and studying deformation of lower mantle materials is therefore important for interpreting lower mantle flow.

Influencing Parameters at Drum Screens for Packaging Screening

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Drum (trommel) screens are extensively utilized in the classification of packaging waste according to its particle size. The present study aims to quantify the size‐classification behaviour of elongated, hollow packaging‐like items (representing bottles, tubes and cups) using cylindrical and tubular test pieces.

Fe2+ Partitioning in Al‐Free Pyrolite: Consequences for Seismic Velocities and Heterogeneities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Iron partitioning among the main lower mantle phases, bridgmanite (Bm) and ferropericlase (Fp), has non‐monotonic behavior owing to the high‐spin to low‐spin crossover in ferrous iron (Fe2+) in Fp.

Peroxodisulfate‐Enhanced Leaching of Deep‐Sea Manganese Crusts and Sulfides

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Ammonium peroxodisulfate enables efficient leaching of deep‐sea manganese crusts and massive sulfides while offering electrolytic recycling. High leaching yields for V, Mn, Co, Mo, Sn, and W, along with complete leaching of As and Sb, highlight its potential as a powerful and sustainable oxidant for marine resource processing.
