Lower semicontinuity, almost lower semicontinuity, and continuous selections for set-valued mappings

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 1988
Let X be a paracompact space, Y a normed vector space and \(2^ Y\) the collection of all non-empty subsets of Y. A function f: \(X\to 2^ Y\) is called a set-valued mapping. The relationships between lower semicontinuity, almost lower semicontinuity and the existence of various kinds of continuous selections for such a mapping are studied. For the cases

Global weak solutions for the compressible Poisson–Nernst–Planck–Navier–Stokes system

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract We consider the compressible Poisson–Nernst–Planck–Navier–Stokes (PNPNS) system of equations, governing the transport of charged particles under the influence of the self‐consistent electrostatic potential, in a three‐dimensional bounded domain.

Existence and Stability for Traveling Waves of Fourth‐Order Semilinear Wave and Schrödinger Equations

open access: yesStudies in Applied Mathematics, Volume 156, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT We investigate the existence and spectral stability of traveling wave solutions for a class of fourth‐order semilinear wave equations, commonly referred to as beam equations. Using variational methods based on a constrained maximization problem, we establish the existence of smooth, exponentially decaying traveling wave profiles for wavespeeds

Postulation of schemes of length at most 4 on surfaces

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract In this paper, we address the postulation problem of zero‐dimensional schemes of length at most 4 on a surface. We prove some general results and then we focus on the case of P2$\mathbb {P}^2$, P1×P1$\mathbb {P}^1\times \mathbb {P}^1$ and Hirzebruch surfaces. In particular, we prove that except for few well‐known exceptions, a general union of

Nonlocal Variational Principles with Variable Growth

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2014
This paper is concerned with the functional J defined by J(u)=∫Ω×ΩW(x,y,∇u(x),∇u(y))dx dy, where Ω⊂ℝN is a regular open bounded set and W is a real-valued function with variable growth.

The motive of the Hilbert scheme of points in all dimensions

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 132, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract We prove a closed formula for the generating series Zd(t)$\mathsf {Z}_d(t)$ of the motives [Hilbd(An)0]$[\operatorname{Hilb}^d({\mathbb {A}}^n)_0]$ in K0(VarC)$K_0(\operatorname{Var}_{{\mathbb {C}}})$ of punctual Hilbert schemes, summing over n$n$, for fixed d>0$d>0$.

Dissipative energy functionals of passive linear time‐varying systems

open access: yesZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, Volume 106, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The concept of dissipativity plays a crucial role in the analysis of control systems. Dissipative energy functionals, also known as Hamiltonians, storage functions, or Lyapunov functions, depending on the setting, are extremely valuable to analyze and control the behavior of dynamical systems, but in general circumstances they are very ...

Debt Ceilings With Fiscal Intransparency and Imperfect Electoral Accountability

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, Volume 67, Issue 1, Page 97-125, February 2026.
ABSTRACT We study optimal debt ceilings in a political‐agency model with uncertainty about both policymaker type (benevolent or selfish) and economic state (good or bad). Elections generate disciplining and selection effects that differ across pooling, hybrid, and separating equilibria induced by different ceilings.
