Effects of Loxosceles laeta spider venom on blood coagulation

Toxicon, 1982
The hematologic effects of intradermal injection of Loxosceles laeta venom in rabbits were studied with special reference to partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, platelet count and fibrinogen-fibrin degradation products. The in vitro effect of Loxesceles laeta venom on human platelet aggregation was also studied. Fibrinogen and platelet count

Microhabitats Occupied byLoxosceles intermediaandLoxosceles laeta(Araneae: Sicariidae) in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil

Journal of Medical Entomology, 2005
A survey was done of the environments and substrata occupied by Loxosceles intermedia Mello-Leitão, 1934 and Loxosceles laeta (Nicolet, 1849) (Araneae: Sicariidae) in urban woods and anthropic constructions in Curitiba. In total, 2,099 trees, 364 decaying logs as well as stones and roots, built-up areas, and wasteland in six urban parks and 60 ...

Influence of spider silk on refugia preferences of the recluse spiders Loxosceles reclusa and Loxosceles laeta (Araneae: Sicariidae).

Journal of economic entomology, 2010
In a previous experimental study, recluse spiders Loxosceles reclusa Gertsch and Mulaik and Loxosceles laeta (Nicolet) (Araneae: Sicariidae) preferred small cardboard refugia covered with conspecific silk compared with never-occupied refugia. Herein, we investigated some factors that might be responsible for this preference using similar cardboard ...

Molecular cloning and expression of a functional dermonecrotic and haemolytic factor from Loxosceles laeta venom

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2002
The bite of spiders of the genus Loxosceles can induce a variety of biological effects, including dermonecrosis and complement-dependent haemolysis. The aim of this study was to generate recombinant proteins from the Loxosceles spider gland to facilitate structural and functional studies in the mechanisms of loxoscelism. Using "Expressed Sequencing Tag"
