A Protein Isolate from Moringa oleifera Leaves Has Hypoglycemic and Antioxidant Effects in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Moringa oleifera has been used in traditional medicine to treat diabetes. However, few studies have been conducted to relate its antidiabetic properties to proteins. In this study, a leaf protein isolate was obtained from M. oleifera leaves, named Mo-LPI,

Long‐term trends in parasite diversity and infection levels: approaches and patterns

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Parasites exist in every ecosystem, affecting nearly all organisms and playing a complex role in human societies. On the one hand, they contribute substantially to biodiversity and support ecosystem stability by performing essential ecological functions.

European Ports as Energy Hubs: A Sustainability Index to Assess Territorial Development

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The capacity of ports to act as energy hubs is increasingly relevant in light of sustainability challenges and global crises like the Ukraine conflict, the COVID‐19 pandemic and energy scarcity. Numerous international and national initiatives are shaping the future of port development to address environmental and economic concerns.

Untargeted Metabolomics Identifies N‐Lactoyl‐Amino Acids as Dose‐Responsive Plasma Biomarkers of Metformin Adherence in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.

Print quality optimization in screen printing by AM and FM screening using Taguchi's Grey Relational Analysis technique

open access: yesJournal of Graphic Engineering and Design
This is an experimental and statistical approach to assess the impact of AM and FM screen ruling in screen printing under the condition such as printing of a test target on both coated and uncoated paper with three different types of screen mesh count ...

Mixed integer predictive control and shortest path reformulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Mixed integer predictive control deals with optimizing integer and real control variables over a receding horizon. The mixed integer nature of controls might be a cause of intractability for instances of larger dimensions. To tackle this little issue, we

$(3,1)^*$-choosability of planar graphs without adjacent short cycles

open access: yes, 2013
A list assignment of a graph $G$ is a function $L$ that assigns a list $L(v)$ of colors to each vertex $v\in V(G)$. An $(L,d)^*$-coloring is a mapping $\pi$ that assigns a color $\pi(v)\in L(v)$ to each vertex $v\in V(G)$ so that at most $d$ neighbors of

Understanding protein–flavor interactions: Factors, characterization techniques, and the effect of processing

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract The perception of flavor in a food system depends on its release from the protein matrix. Apart from hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions and van der Waal's forces, the formation of covalent adducts between the flavor and protein highly impacts the release of flavor from the protein matrix.

Automated Imaging of Cultured Bacteria in Picoliter Droplets by Coherent Anti‐Stokes Raman Scattering and Two‐Photon Excited Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
We present an automated system that combines an image‐based fuzzy logic controller for precise positioning of microfluidic picoliter droplets with nonlinear microscopy, using CARS and TPEF modalities for detailed analysis of droplet composition. Time series and z‐stack images of E. coli, B. subtilis, and M. arborescens were recorded.

Valuing Natural Space and Landscape Fragmentation in Richmond, VA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hedonic pricing methods and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) were used to evaluate relationships between sale price of single family homes and landscape fragmentation and natural land cover. Spatial regression analyses found that sale prices increase
