Evaluation of CBS 600 carburized steel as a gear material [PDF]

open access: yes
Gear endurance tests were conducted with one lot of consumable-electrode vacuum-melted (CVM) AISI 9310 gears and one lot of air-melt CBS 600 gears. The gears were 8 pitch with a pitch diameter of 8.89 centimeters (3.5 in.).

Toward Flexible Printed Electronics: A Spider‐Silk‐Inspired, Strong and Tough Thermoplastic Polyamide Elastomer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by spider silk, a bio‐inspired polyamide elastomer with a dynamic physical cross‐linking network is developed. Mimicking the rigid β‐sheet crystals and sacrificial hydrogen bonds of silk, the material achieves an exceptional balance of strength and toughness.

Some effects of composition on friction and wear of graphite-fiber-reinforced polyimide liners in plain spherical bearings [PDF]

open access: yes
Oscillating, plain spherical bearings with graphite-fiber-reinforced polyimide (GFRPI) liners were tested for friction and wear from 25 to 315 C. A condensation polymer was compared with an addition polymer, and a high-modulus fiber was compared with a ...

Site‐Specific Hydroxide Formation and Corrosion on Mg Nanocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐crystalline Mg nanocrystals, this study uncovers the intrinsic corrosion initiation mechanism. The stability of the protective Mg(OH)2 film depends on its interfacial coherence with the Mg substrate. Corrosion initiates at exposed corners, where film coverage is incomplete.

Determination of physical and chemical states of lubricants in concentrated contacts, part 3 [PDF]

open access: yes
Solid and liquid thin films were analyzed by infrared emission Fourier microspectrophotometry. The apparatus used is a commercial absorption instrument modified to an emission instrument, comprising a rotating polarizing device, a miniature blackbody ...

In Situ Stress‐Dispersing Hydrogel Millispheres via Load Redistribution to Restore Nucleus Pulposus Metabolic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local stress concentration disrupts metabolic homeostasis and induces inflammation in the nucleus pulposus (NP), thereby accelerating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). A biomimetic HA/ChS hydrogel millimeter sphere (ChS@HM) is developed to enable synergistic stress dispersion and sustained hydration lubrication.

Analytical Studies on the Functional Effect of Sulfur-Containing Extreme Pressure Additives

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions
Proper maintenance of machine components exposed to high pressure and temperature is essential for efficient and safe operation. One of the most important additives in these lubricants is the extreme pressure (EP) additive, which allows lubricants to ...

Development of aircraft brake materials [PDF]

open access: yes
The requirements of brake materials were outlined and a survey made to select materials to meet the needs of high temperature brakes. A number of metals and ceramic materials were selected and evaluated in sliding tests which simulated aircraft braking ...
