Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Multi-scale analysis of the roughness effect on lubricated rough contact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Determining friction is as equally essential as determining the film thickness in the lubricated contact, and is an important research subject. Indeed, reduction of friction in the automotive industry is important for both the minimization of fuel ...

Mo content-depended competition between Cr2O3 enrichment and selective dissolution of CoCrFeNiMo x high entropy alloys

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation, 2022
The corrosion and passivation behavior of the as-cast CoCrFeNiMo x (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0) high entropy alloys (HEAs) are investigated. With the addition of Mo, increasing Mo and Cr riched σ phase precipitates from the primary FCC phase. The

Lubrication and Lubricants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Lubrication is a process in which a lubricant is placed between rubbing surfaces to control friction and reduce wear. This article outlines the nature of the frictional force, the wear process, the role of surface characteristics, and the mechanisms of lubrication.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
