Ti6Al4V‐Bioglass‐Copper Composites for Load‐Bearing Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We have designed and manufactured a novel Ti64‐based composite by adding 45S5 bioglass (BG) and copper (Cu). Adding BG on titanium improves wear resistance and biocompatibility, whereas Cu addition improves mechanical strength while providing inherent lifelong bacterial resistance.

Molecular behaviors in thin film lubrication—Part two: Direct observation of the molecular orientation near the solid surface

open access: yesFriction, 2019
Over the past twenty years, thin film lubrication (TFL) theory has been used to characterize the molecular behaviors in lubrication films thinner than 100 nm, effectively bridging the gap between elastohydrodynamic lubrication and boundary lubrication ...

The influence of laser hardening on wear in the valve and valve seat contact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In internal combustion engines it is important to manage the wear in the valve and valve seat contact in order to minimise emissions and maximise economy.

A Synovium‐on‐Chip Platform to Study Multicellular Interactions in Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The Synovium‐on‐Chip comprises a thin microporous PDMS membrane to support co‐culture of fibroblast‐like synoviocytes (FLS), THP‐1‐derived macrophages, and endothelial cells, enabling real‐time analysis of synovial‐vascular interactions. FLS migration through the pores drives endothelial remodeling, while TNF‐α stimulation induces robust inflammatory ...

Stryker Osteonics: Prosthetic Knee Joint [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We examine, within a simple bearing model of a knee joint that only consideres pure sliding, the effect of the presence of a small vertical hole in the load area on the fluid film properties.

Tribological Behavior of Very Thin Confined Films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The tribological properties of two smooth surfaces in the presence of a thin confined film are investigated with a generic model for the interaction between two surfaces and with computer simulations.

Review of Thin Lithium Metal Battery Anode Fabrication – Microstructure – Electrochemistry Relations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thin, lightweight lithium‐metal anodes are pivotal for practical high‐energy batteries. This review surveys processing routes that convert diverse Li precursors, e.g., ingots, melts, solutions, and vapor, into Li‐rich foils with controlled thickness, areal density, and tailored functionality.

A study on the frequency shift characteristics of rolling bearing ring fault considering the sliding effect under different lubrication conditions

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing
The change in lubrication status often leads to changes in the internal force and vibration status of rolling bearings, which is the reason for the change in the character frequency of rolling bearing defects.

Energy efficient reduced graphene oxide additives: Mechanism of effective lubrication and antiwear properties

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Optimized concentration of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in the lube is one of the important factors for effective lubrication of solid body contacts. At sufficiently lower concentration, the lubrication is ineffective and friction/wear is dominated by ...
