Identification of Local Lubrication Regimes on Textured Surfaces by 3D Roughness Curvature Radius

open access: yes, 2014
This paper proposes a new method of 3D roughness peaks curvature radius calculation and its application to tribological contact analysis as a characteristic signature of tribological contact.

Tribological properties of MoS2 coating for ultra-long wear-life and low coefficient of friction combined with additive g-C3N4 in air

open access: yesFriction, 2020
The solid lubricant MoS2 demonstrates excellent lubricating properties, but it spontaneously oxidizes and absorbs moisture in air, and thus results in poor wear resistance and short wear-life.

Mo content-depended competition between Cr2O3 enrichment and selective dissolution of CoCrFeNiMo x high entropy alloys

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation, 2022
The corrosion and passivation behavior of the as-cast CoCrFeNiMo x (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0) high entropy alloys (HEAs) are investigated. With the addition of Mo, increasing Mo and Cr riched σ phase precipitates from the primary FCC phase. The

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

High Order Finite Element Solution of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this thesis, a high-order finite element scheme, based upon the Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method, is introduced to solve one- and two-dimensional Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) problems (line contact and point contact). This thesis provides an

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Adjoint Error Estimation for Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this thesis, adjoint error estimation techniques are applied to complex elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) problems. A functional is introduced, namely the friction, and justification is provided as to why this quantity, and hence its accuracy, is ...

MoS2 nanoparticles grown on carbon nanomaterials for lubricating oil additives

open access: yesFriction, 2020
In this study, the nanocomposites of MoS2 nanoparticles (NPs) grown on carbon nanotubes (MoS2@CNT), graphene (MoS2@Gr), and fullerene C60 (MoS2@C60) were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for potential use as lubricant additives.
