Vickers indentation hardness of stoichiometric and reduced single crystal TiO2 (rutile) from 25 to 800 C [PDF]

open access: yes
The indentation microhardness of stoichiometric and reduced single crystal rutile (TiO2) from 25 to 800 C is presented in this paper. The results serve two main purposes. One is to assess the effect of rutile's stoichiometry on its hardness. The other is

Organ‐Specific and Conserved Regulatory Logic Orchestrates Gene Expression in the Embryonic Mesothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated multi‐omic profiling maps the gene‐regulatory landscape of the coelomic mesothelium across heart, lung, and pancreas. A cardiac‐restricted regulatory program is uncovered in which TBX20 activates heart mesothelial (epicardial) cis‐regulatory elements, while MAF emerges as a conserved regulator of mesothelial identity.

Hydrodynamic lift on bound vesicles

open access: yes, 1999
Bound vesicles subject to lateral forces such as arising from shear flow are investigated theoretically by combining a lubrication analysis of the bound part with a scaling approach to the global motion.

Scalable Laser Processing Enables Transparent, Accretion Scale‐Independent, Ice‐Shedding Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a scalable laser‐based method to create wave‐like micro‐patterns on glass surfaces that counter the conventional view that roughness increases ice adhesion. These patterns direct crack propagation at the ice–glass interface, enabling low‐force, multi‐directional ice detachment while maintaining substrate transparency. A theoretical model

On the Influence of the Convective Term in the Navier–Stokes Equation on the Forces in Hydrodynamic Bearings

open access: yesLubricants
Many theories describing the flow of viscous fluids in thin lubrication layers during rotor motion inside a stator, including the influence of the convective term in the Navier–Stokes equation, are known and widely used.

Physico-mathematical modeling methods for the pressure distribution determination in the gas-dynamic bearing gap of the ball gyroscope

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The considering problem in the article connects with solution methods of the specific questions in gas-dynamic lubrication theory. The comparative analysis of analytical and numerical methods for the calculating gas-dynamic bearing characteristics is ...

Data set for determination of lubrication film thickness and lubrication state between bone and Ti–6Al–4V interface under three biolubrications

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
The lubrication states between the friction pairs in lubrications have an important effect on its tribological behavior. Therefore, the aim of this complementary data article is to identify the corresponding lubrication states between bone and Ti–6Al–4V ...

A Biomimetic Lubricant Captures Hyaluronic Acid In Situ to Regenerate Cartilage: From Bench to Bedside

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
(a) The outstanding lubricative properties of natural articular cartilage arise from a composite coating composed of HA, lubricin, and phospholipids at its surface. Notably, lubricin facilitates the enrichment of synovial HA onto cartilage surfaces, and HA complexes with phospholipids, a key component to maintain extremely low friction under high ...

Selective Nitrate Transmembrane Transport Through Adaptive Weak C─H Bonding Cyanostilbene Water Channels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Here we demonstrate that weak HB CH donor cyanostilbenes promote water/ion transport through their ability to form less‐ordered transient water channels within the lipid bilayer with increased water permeability and NO3−/ Cl− selectivity. ABSTRACT Transmembrane water transport strongly depends on how dynamic, translocating water clusters are stabilized

Site‐Specific Hydroxide Formation and Corrosion on Mg Nanocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐crystalline Mg nanocrystals, this study uncovers the intrinsic corrosion initiation mechanism. The stability of the protective Mg(OH)2 film depends on its interfacial coherence with the Mg substrate. Corrosion initiates at exposed corners, where film coverage is incomplete.
