Squeeze-film gas bearing technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Squeeze-film bearing is studied to develop a low-friction suspension for the output-axis gimbal of a single-degree-of-freedom gyroscope.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

The Theory of Lubrication

open access: yesTransactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1951
When we deal theoretically with the subject of the lubrication, we treat it on the supposition that the viscosity of the lubricant is constant for the convenience of the calculation. But we can't regard it as constant, owing to the fact that the lubricant in bearing is affected by the pressure and temperature.

Elastic deformation during dynamic force measurements in viscous fluids

open access: yes, 2017
Understanding and harnessing the coupling between lubrication pressure and elasticity provides materials design strategies for applications such as adhesives, coatings, microsensors, and biomaterials.

PASSIVE TORQUE SIMULATION OF SMALL ANGULAR CONTACT BEARING AT HIGH SPEED [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Description of common ball bearing torque models was presented and adopted to the complex thermo-mechanical model of the high speed spindle. Ball bearing passive torque was measured on the own high-speed spindle design.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

In Situ 3D Bioprinting: Impact of Cross‐Linking on the Adhesive Properties of Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ 3D bioprinting enables the direct deposition of cell‐laden, adhesive biomaterials for on‐site tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of how cross‐linking influences the bioadhesive properties of hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting, highlighting cross‐linking triggers, bioadhesion mechanisms, polymer interpenetration ...

Active particles in periodic lattices

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
Both natural and artificial small-scale swimmers may often self-propel in environments subject to complex geometrical constraints. While most past theoretical work on low-Reynolds number locomotion addressed idealised geometrical situations, not much is ...

Numerical simulation model of a reciprocating seal based on the mixed-lubrication theory

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
Based on the mixed-lubrication theory, a numerical simulation model of a reciprocating seal is established. The model includes finite element, fluid mechanics, contact mechanics and deformation mechanics analyses.

The cutoff method for the numerical computation of nonnegative solutions of parabolic PDEs with application to anisotropic diffusion and lubrication-type equations

open access: yes, 2013
The cutoff method, which cuts off the values of a function less than a given number, is studied for the numerical computation of nonnegative solutions of parabolic partial differential equations.
