Before Mnemosyne: Wilhelmine Cultural History Exhibitions and the Genesis of Warburg's Picture Atlas. [PDF]

open access: yesBer Wiss
Abstract Aby Warburg's Bilderatlas Mnemosyne, left unfinished in 1929, has attracted significant interest in recent decades. This essay offers a new interpretation of Warburg's “picture atlas,” not in relation to modernist collage and photomontage, but as an heir to scientific pedagogical exhibitions of the late Wilhelmine period.

Boundary experts: Science and politics in measuring the Sustainable Development Goals

open access: yesGlobal Policy, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 600-610, September 2023., 2023
Abstract The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) purport to cleanly separate politics and technical matters, embodied by the political negotiation of goals and targets, and the technical creation of an indicator framework. This article analyses how this boundary between science and politics is managed in practice.

Material Testing 2.0: A brief review

open access: yesStrain, Volume 59, Issue 3, June 2023., 2023
Abstract With the advent of camera‐based full‐field measurement techniques such as digital image correlation (DIC), researchers have been trying to exploit such rich data sets through the use of more complex test configurations than the standard ones (uniaxial tension/compression, bending etc.).

Toward a 2D/3D Finite‐Element–Based Digital Shadow for the Approximation of Metrologically Inaccessible Dynamic Fields of State Variables during Heavy Plate Rolling

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 94, Issue 5, May 2023., 2023
During rolling, fields of thermophysical state variables are metrologically inaccessible. A modularly structured 2D/3D offline model, integrated into a digital shadow, is presented to compensate for this drawback. Innovation is the investigation of the plate's kinematic and mechanical–technological state variables as a function of its width coordinate.

High‐Performance Vitrimeric Benzoxazines for Sustainable Advanced Materials: Design, Synthesis, and Applications

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 308, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Aromatic phenols derived from plants are used with formaldehyde and primary amines to synthesize benzoxazine resins. If a suitable dynamic bond is incorporated in benzoxazine monomer, the material would polymerize into a high‐performance polybenzoxazine vitrimer for aerospace and other industrial applications.

Ludwik Fleck: pesquisador e prisioneiro
